what brand ATF to use?

just wondering what brand ATF everyone else is using and which one yall recommend i currently have the black bottle ones thats for imported cars from auto zone

This seems to really come down to preference. I just did a BUNCH of research on this and decided to go with Amsoil. I have seen some data measuring the amount of impurities after use and Amsoil came out on top on a few samples I've seen. Then again, I've seen others where other brands like Royal Purple or Mobil 1 came out on top. Downside is price at about $16/qt for Amsoil, but this wasn't far off from about $14/qt for OEM Toyota ATF. IMHO, any reputable brand is prob good.

I use Castrol Dex/Merc. It works fine. I'll probably switch to Valvoline Maxlife Dex/Merc since it's semi synthetic. It isn't a bad idea to change ATF at shorter intervals if you're at 150k+ in miles.

My local Toyota shop told me to just go get Dextron III, so I went to O'Reilly and bought some Dextron VI (they don't sell III, but the bottle said VI works with III).

I've used Cheveon MD-3 in my 4runner and Mercedes for years, both call for Dex III and this stuff seems to work just fine. I plan on doing a drain and fill of the pan every 15k as that's what the interval the previous owner kept, keep this old box running a little longer.

We only use Toyota fluids in our toyotas, but in everything else we use Valvoline.

Been using Amsoil for the last 20 years in everything I've owned. From my 4Runner to Chevy trucks...has served me very well.
