What Color should I paint my Jerry Can?

WHITE
ORANGE
RED

Its currently red but It conflits with my Black, White and Orange theme. But it goes with the tailights I guess...

Im thinking Orange to match my Winch rope and emblems.

I know the jerrycans are supposed to be specific colors based on whats in them but that conflicts with my color theme so the "rules" will have to sit this one out.

Water is usually white/tan and blue is for Kerosene...

I accidentally vote "Orange", but it should be "Red" and I say that for two reasons... 1) fuel containers should be red and 2) I think that a lot of work would go into getting a durable paint job over the enamel or powder coat that the can is coated with. I would also be concerned about the gas ruining it and it chipping off in places and looking bad.

Don't worry, I don't think anyone will be taking points away from the score of your rig! It looks awesome!

Leave it red. If you are absolutely set on changing the color, I would do black, but mark it as fuel somehow.

However, from one Star Wars built truck to another, I would just leave it off of your truck around the city and just use it on trips (in which case functionality overshadows aesthetics). One less thing to draw attention to your vehicle as something to steal and it won't have to conflict with your Sandtrooper colors.

Btw, I love the build. Coincidentally, you put your stormtrooper in the same location as mine on the rear window. My imperial logo is on my Gobi wind fairing though. Still, many similarities, although mine started out as a Shadow Stormtrooper influenced build. Since most are unaware of their existence, Vader was easier to explain so it has changed somewhat.

Nice truck though, I don't care what you call it. I voted to leave it red, I think it complements your colors without getting poserish. Paint it something else and it would look like you cared about your color scheme or something.

Not sure if it's state law or federal. Might actually be federal.

Here in NH and I know the same in NY...ALL GAS CANS MUST BE RED. If it's not RED it's against the law to put gas in there. Yellow is for Diesel.

This! When u don't need it, can take it off and have a sticker on the exposed rear window! That way it doesn't look naked where the can usually is! Great build tho man, it's always fun to see what you're up to next!

NATO Guidelines for Jerry Can colors are as follows:

Red for Gasoline (lead-replacement)
Green for Gasoline (unleaded)
Yellow for Diesel
Blue for Kerosene
Tan, Light Blue or Black for Water (usually labeled)

I would say if you do want to change the color of the can (I thought about painting mine olive drab or black when I get them) Mark a band around the can for the contents so you at least know what's inside.

Leave the fuel can red, but get a different one (tan or black) for water. Use that one on your truck until you need to carry fuel, then carry the red one. My $.02.

I voted for black, but looks like I'm in the minority. If you feel you have to change it for your theme I would do black, but perhaps a stripe of red lettering that says Gas or Fuel would help tie in the theme with your red emblems..
