What did everyone pay for their 4th gen?

Got the bug... aquired our first one in November of last year (2017) and within about 8 months now have three...
First one for my daughter:
2004 Sport V8 4wd black- private sale, (Craigslist) in knoxville,TN , originally from Bentonville AR... very nice, with lift kit, maintained very well, body very good, minor dings expected for the age, but ALL fluids has been changed within 10k, everything works. 189k, no rust and undercarriage looks perfect, warranty replaced dash, new 265/70 k02s, previous owner was an wrencher and enthusiast. $9400 cash but no money needed to be put into it .. does need a 200k timing belt coming up however mechanically very sound.... had a Alpine aftermarket standard speaker system sounded blah, we put in JBL speakers and sounds great in there.
then next I was so jealous I had to have one and my 2001 pathfinder was almost dead so I found:
2004 Sport v8 4wd silver - private sale, Craigslist, also knoxville, TN - all its life .... stock.. body fine, with some scuffs and battle scars... the wife's car, 3 owners but in the same family (dad, then two sisters) originally bought from Carmax from a "corporate title" at 69k.... was not neglected but was clearly used to haul car seats and occasional boat and was handed down as "just a family car" to them, no proactive maintenance, nor real history other than oil changes in carfax... 210k when I got it, no rust, mildly cracking dash, tranny thunk, got lucky with new 265/65 K02s.... got a deal at $5000, but put another two grand into it with brakes/rotors, new radiator (leaking), timing belt/pump/belts, CV, and fluids (diffs/xfer), and pretty much all bulbs.. going to drain and refill the tranny pan soon... so I am all in at about $7500 right now. Has the JBL sound system and I love it... great sound... added the BT45TOY bluetooth/phone module and love that.
then my other daughter just got:
2004 Limited v8 4wd black - she wanted leather and likes the creature comforts so that worked out.. From a great used car dealer, in Lebanon, TN - previous Indiana/Kentucky history... slightly more surface rust underneath, but not enough to care. 210k, amazing beautiful exterior, interior really good, but just slightly cracking dash along edges, various bulbs out - I have fixed, and great news is dealer just replaced both new headers and cats (was ticking and dash light with codes wouldnt pass emissions)... $6300 plus state tax for total of $6900.
still to do since we just got it: needs timing belt, CVs, prob brakes/rotors and tires are old worn Michelin will change in Spring to K02. After repairs and tires, probably will be in for about $9000. It has the premium JBL but someone yanked it out and put an Alpine head unit that must be wired weird and does wonky things with FADER and BALANCE to the speakers. I got a factory head unit off ebay for $75 and going to put it back in to fix it back to sound right again and add the BT45TOY for bluetooth/phone capability.
... after all said and done after initial purchase prices and repairs we will have roughly $25,000 in them between all three ... I love that considering thats close to half of a new one and the sticker price for all three was about $120,000. :bravo: These are just city cars and the first cars for my daughters... no off road for them... my short term goal is to see them reach 300,000 on each of the odometers.Looking forward to the journey and owning my first 4runner... now just wondering what took me so long...
Hey, Just wanted to throw this out there for you. On your daughter's Limited, the radio fader and balance is "wonky" because it is using the stock amp to power the rear and subwoofer, and the front is using the power off the headunit. I just replaced my stock one with a Kenwood Double din (bluetooth, handsfree, iphone controls built in) unit and that is how the wiring was done if you want to keep the stock amp. There is also a bypass method but that involves running wires to the back where the stock amp is.
My aftermarket headunit sounds way better than the stock JBL Synthesis.

That's a screaming deal! I'm looking at purchasing a 2008 V8 Limited w/ 167k. I would prefer a SE, but this is the cleanest 4th gen I've found in my area and price range. I'll disclose the price if he accepts my offer...

It was and it wasn't at the same time. Unknown history and north eastern vehicle. I got a lot of wire wheel and flap wheel work ahead of me. I got like a grand of maintenance into it so far. Turns out the timing belt, water pump, and drive belts were replaced before but no sticker was on the engine to indicate it, so that was wasted time. But I bought it seeing if I'd like the move to the 4th gen from 3rd gen. I was just gonna resell for a 5th gen if I didn't think the V8 was worth while but it is. Just gonna drive this thing into the ground haha.

$3300 - 2004 V6 2WD 179,000 on second engine. A few small electrical issues that we fixed in a few days. A few small dings around the body work. New leather interior. Carpets are shitty, but will dye these. This is sons second beater 4R (The head gasket on his '96 just blew after four years ownership). He's saving for cash payment on a 2012 or newer Tacoma. :bigok:

funny part is I stumbled on it when I stopped at a car lot to look at a tacoma and with how clean and low milage I couldn't pass it up. Bought it that day after a quick look over from my step dad master mechanic. Had to talk them down from 14k but peeling rims and the Possibility of a Head gasket repair had them to 10k. That was 2 years ago, and now Im at 126k and the only repairs Ive done aside from suspension is all around rotors and pads one new caliper, a new battery and new spark plugs.
Thanks! I think I got pretty lucky. I'd been looking for a 4Runner for a few weeks when I came across mine. It was very clean! The tires were also new and the owner of the dealership threw on some never used rims from his 2016(?) Tacoma! Hoping my T4R can get as many miles as yours has now!

2008 V8 Limited w/ nav and RAS. 167k, one owner, garage kept. Definitely the cleanest and most rust free 4Runner I looked at during my search in the Boston area. $10,500. I little more than I wanted to pay considering the miles, but worth it for the history and rust free-ness.

2004 limited full time awd aswell with the V8 1 owner that was well maintained $6000 Canadian with navigation and a set of winter tires to go with it 140k when I bought her

Just bought an '03 Sport V6 for $2500 Canadian last Thursday. She's rough, has 195K miles on her but other than the rusted out tailgate at the 3rd brake light there isn't a spot of rust.
I had it up in the air on Saturday and was surprised just how solid it was underneath.
Compare that to my 3rd gen that I bought 2 years ago and paid $7400 Canadian for with 136,000 miles and I'm not sure which was the better deal.
I'll know more once I dump a bunch of parts on to the '03!

How much above KBB for clean condition and low miles
All - I've been searching for about 2 months and haven't come across a truck that I'm willing to pull the trigger on yet. This will be my first 4Runner. My goal is to find something in the $10k-$12k range with about 120k-140k miles. I'd like the ability to drive it for a year or two and be able to switch into something else if I want for a total cost of $1k-$3k.
Everything I go look at that is close to KBB pricing or $1-$2k above at a dealer, is trashed with defects that wouldn't be easily fixed, such as dings, paint issues, rust, interior defects, etc.
I'm wondering how much you guys were willing to go above KBB, for that unicorn clean truck or ultra-low miles?
There is a dealer near me with a 2006 with 75,000 miles. It's listed at $2k over KBB fair dealer price, and $4k over what private party price would be. I'm hesitant to even go look at it knowing that it would be tough to ever get my money back out of it again.
What do you all think?
