How's the performance of the GTX 1080 Ti??

Run well at 4K?

I"ve been thinking about getting a gaming PC, got a bit of time off work now to do it, but I'm not sure its a good idea with graphics cards costing so much right now.

Would you recommend 4K? A lot of the reading I have done suggests that 2560x1440 is right about the sweet spot right now for running most games at 60hz without pushing your vid card to its limits.

I don't use it for mining but it does run 4K games on my OLED at 4K native pretty damn awesome.

If you have a 4K TV then yes it is sweet. But on a monitor I would think 2560 is more than enough. My TV is 65" so 4K is noticeable improvement.

My PC is old in age but fast in what counts. I've got an Nahalem Intel (1st Gen 2008) i7 970 CPU, 6 cores running at 3.6Ghz, socket type LGA-1366 with all SSD for OS and game drive plus 24GB of RAM on Win10. Paired with the 1080TI it is limited by the video card, not the MB/CPU.

From a gaming perspective no hard need to upgrade but if I was doing other work I would probably see a notable benefit from upgrading the CPU/MB/RAM.

If you are like me then you probably send more time thinking "that would be a cool game to play" than actually playing video games.

I completely agree on the evolution of BTC. It's currently not where it needs to be for the layman to begin using it but neither was the internet back in the day. I was putting myself through college at Radio Shack when the "Trash" TRS 80 came out. I studied dBase II and III which is now defunct. I clearly remember the dial-up modem and no cell phones. My mom told me back in the day, you need to get into computers. I never listened. She was a visionary. Clearly it's not where it needs to be and has a lot of hurdles to overcome, but it will be here. I edited my percentage as it is a very small percentage but I'm just leaving it there.

For a pretty good source of crypto news I like CCN. https://www.ccn.com

Come on, you believe what you see on CNN ?

For the record, about 6 months ago I bought $50 worth of bitcoin and $50 of bitcoin light, now it's worth a total of $43. IMHO these Cryptocurrentcy are a terrible investment. Someone show me that I'm wrong.

Six months ago was pretty much peak bubble for cryptocurrencies so yeah, it makes sense that your investment, err, speculative investment lost value over the time frame considered.

BTW... Not that I consider cryptocurrency to be an investment, but in general investment performance shouldn't be taken seriously unless done so over a pretty long time frame. Multiple years, at least.

I've been mining ETH consistently since last November. 5 card rig and it's paid for itself.

Bought alts and sold for profits, whole portfolio is in the green, just hoping for more stability in the markets now, actively trading.

Got into Crypto back in 2011 mining Litecoin and Dogecoin. Stopped because I had a ton of coins that we worth a couple bucks a piece.......should have never sold......I'd be rich by now.

Currencies to check out:

XVG
EOS
XRP
ONT

I've got money I can afford to lose in the game, but the remote possibility that these will ever carry pricing similar to BTC, LTC, or ETH makes it easily worth it. The current market caps make that unlikely, but the entire market is just so knew and speculative and growing so quickly that nobody can really say what will happen. Is it worth throwing a couple bucks at it? I think so.

With extra cash and the mindset it's a gamble more then an investment then it's absolutely worth throwing at a few different coins. Sounds like you realize that and will do just fine if you profit or not.

The inherent problem with investing in crypto, and speculation in general, is that most people don't play the game with extra cash. They play it with cash they need hoping to turn a profit.

Since crypto started to make big headlines with big gains people jumped on the bandwagon. Reality finally caught up and many people lost a lot of cash. Many, mostly smarter, folks made a ton of cash by selling before the bubble imploded.

I think crypto and it's underlying tech is here to stay. I think that's a good thing. What value will any of it hold in 10 years? Most likely more then current levels for some and zero for others. I hope betting red and black pays off for you.

You're absolutely right. Most people see Bitcoin gains and jumped on, only to lose pretty much everything. No different than gamblers throwing away their life savings in vegas.

Some analysts are saying BTC will regain its peak of last year and surpass it. It might do that, but for people to double their money with that currency the price has to jump from ~$8k to $16k per coin.

XVG only has to jump from $.03 to $.06.

What if it ever hits $1? or $10?
HIGHLY speculative, but a thousand bucks invested today could mean hundreds of thousands in a very short amount of time. Or zero.

You're right, not all crypto is a good investment. In fact, most coins are what as referred to as sh*t coins. You just need to research and understand the technology and the purpose behind each and then make up your own mind.

If you bought around December 6th (six months ago) Litecoin (Bitcoin Lite) was $100.88 and the day of your post it was actually at $122.69. So you actually had a 21% gain last week on Litecoin. Not a bad profit margin. You did better than most! You got yourself a winner at least.

Bitcoin on the other hand was at $12,746.98 on December 6th and the date of your post 6 June it was at $7710.67. That's about a 39% loss. Yup, no gain there. BTC will come up but it needs mainstream adoption.

If you played the market differently and decided to withdraw your Litecoin and your Bitcoin when it peaked out on December 17/19th then Litecoin would have been worth $356.59 and BTC was worth $20,000! You would be singing a different tune now. But nobody can time the market correctly.

If you ever thought about playing with a little more, now is the right time. Maximum financial opportunity is now in the "dip" during the corrections and not on the margin.

You'll get your $100 or more back by years end or sooner. Give it some time.

It's CCN not CNN. Often times mixed up. And even CCN isn't the best news source for crypto. coinlive.IO and Crypto Panic are fairly straight forward news sources.

Very cool, I miss understood, sorry. I will check out CCN. thanks

That. People that claim to have "timed" the market have just gotten lucky. If you look at market timing as a short term trading tool you'll be screwed 9 times out of 10.

Build your portfolio for long term investing and stick with it. It changes with age and market but currently I'm 100% long on stocks. At 44 I will be for another 15 years. When I approach the 60 mark I'll put 40% or so into bonds. There's more articles on long term investment strategies then you can read in a lifetime but that's my long term outlook currently.

All my "play" money is going into my rig this year. Next year I'll be able to make some more speculative investments. I did that a few years back with options and it panned out pretty damn well. If you haven't traded options you really need to look into it. I don't know how it's even legal as it's basically gambling on stock prices at a future date. Anyway I made a REALLY good profit trading them every so often a few years ago. I'd snatch calls that expired after earnings release. I'd sell before earnings. Wash, rinse, repeat. lol

Bitcoin is played out big time. Buying into a coin at the current valuation is insane. What we need to look for is a coin that is relatively unknown that has the potential to surge to a BTC price range.

Like I said in my last post, if you buy into BTC now and it hits $16k, congrats you've doubled your money. HOWEVER, if you buy into XVG at the current price of $.03 and it hits $1, whats that % gain? Leverage your $$

If 95% of the market trading is faked one has to wonder if all those WebEx , articles and get rich using BitCoin YouTube videos aren't just totally full of BS as well.

CNBC - Majority of Bitcoin is a Hoax

Majority of bitcoin trading is a hoax, new study finds

Ninety-five percent of spot bitcoin trading volume is faked by unregulated exchanges, according to a study from Bitwise this week.

The firm analyzed the top 81 crypto exchanges by volume on industry site CoinMarketCap.com. They report an aggregated $6 billion in average daily bitcoin volume. The study finds that only $273 million of that is legitimate.

Do you know that exchanges are not the only way to acquire cryptocurrencies? Perhaps they can not even be called the number 1 choice for investors. They may be too expensive and unsafe. Try the alternative dogecoin price exchange. Everything is extremely simple: create an account, deposit money and exchange it for Bitcoin.
