What is an '06 4Runner with over 500K worth?

I think the price is way high. I just bought a clean 06 limited V8 4WD with 215K miles for $5500, and it was from a dealer.

Sounds like you found a gem! Up in these parts used pricing is all over the charts from the museum pieces 10K and above, and the middle of the road seems to be 7-8K. So many variables to pricing with options / mileage /ect.

Guys-

Would like to hear your thoughts on if I should pursue this truck.

Looking at an '06 4WD V8 4Runner for sale by original owner. Has 550K original miles (mind blowing, right). 90% of miles racked up by work use on highway. Interior is damn near immaculate for 550K so I believe him. Driver side is showing the typical wear on seat, but otherwise very clean.

The guy is meticulous about doing all the fluids on time (only used conventional) and has had multiple timing belt jobs done. Most recent was at 300K, so it's been 250K on that belt. That has me worried as the belt could snap at any point considering the belt's life is 100k, and it's an interference engine.

Everything is original on the truck. Drives 100% fine. No funky noises, no weird shifts. Exhaust manifolds are not cracked. Has the secondary air injection pump failure; triggering the CEL. Frame has surface rust on the frame welds; nothing that can't be managed with some prep and POR-15.

Was involved in one frontal accident of hitting a deer, which just affected the bumper and part of grill (verified his story and saw the hood is original with VIN tag).

This truck didn't get to 550K by neglect, but I am concerned of how many years are left in the engine and trans.

He's asking $5000. Any thoughts or advice would be certainly appreciated.

Offer him $2k. Most likely it will need new wheel bearings soon, unless he replaced them already. Check the bottom corners of the radiator for any leaks. How are the CV boots and struts/shocks? (OEM shocks suck)
check the cabin air filter, see if was recently changed. Hook up a OBD2 meter to it to see if their is any pending codes.

On the timing belt, Toyota Recommends replacement at/around 100k. From what ive read and seen. The Toyota TB can go a lot longer then 100k. I've read that some guys are running them up to 200k miles with no cracking. My co-worker has a V8 and he has over 150K on the original timing belt.

Politely made him an offer of $2,000. No huge explaination, just an offer. I truly don't care if I do get this truck, but at $2k, I would roll the dice. Plus, as you guys have said, it can be parted out and could theoretically recoup the money invested if the engine went kablooey.

He emailed back and said that my offer was too low. The dealership where he bought his new truck apparently made him an offer of $2,500 and told him that they would be able to sell at auction for $4K. I'm not sure I'm buying that story. $2,500 seems very generous for a half million mile 13 year old truck. He said the lowest he would accept is $4K.

Not happening. For $1,500 more I can find 200-300K 4Runners. This truck needs at at least $2,000 in repairs. Anywho, just wanted to update you guys!

Just tell him you aren't budging but if he wants to sell, to keep your contact info (if you're still interested). Chances are that hes bull$hitting and that he will get up with you in a few days about the deal. My dad has done this countless time with cars. People talk a big game, if he can get 2,500 elsewhere he should have done that a loooong time ago. No logical point in trying to squeeze out another measly $500. Especially if the sale has taken him this long.

A part of me wants to buy the truck (it is local) and supercharge it to see how long it lasts. But everything would need to be gone over with a fine tooth comb, every bushing replaced, all the shocks, etc. But if its rust free it may not be too bad...

Looks great for that many miles! I'd expect to be replacing parts all the time from wear though. I don't doubt the dealers auction value. 4runners are ridiculous at manheim no matter what condition it is in.

Buy it! Honestly if I wasn't 1500 miles away id be interested. My brother picked up an immaculate, dealer maintained, perfectly serviced 03' V8 4WD Limited with 396k for 3 grand. Its extremely nice, it drives as well as my 04 with 160k

Probably not the highest, but certainly the highest I’ve seen mentioned on here. Another way to look at this that no one has mentioned... is that this vehicle is still going strong at that age/mileage, and it looks awesome, so it was obviously maintained well, and not beat to death, so it may just be one of those perfectly built factory engines that exceeds even factory life expectancy, and will go for 1,000,000 miles. These unicorns come along every now and then...

If I'm reading this correctly, the seller already bought a new truck and that dealer offered him $2500 towards the trade-in, right? I doubt that dealer will buy it for that much anymore since they already closed the deal on the new truck.
