What is my 3rd gen worth?

I have it listed in the classifieds for 1500. People local seem to not understand what it is and that is has some issues. Am I asking too much?

The two main issues are rust on the seatbelt holder and some times a freeway speed wobble. The passenger seatbelt broke off the floor.

Im not trying to use this section to sell it. I am honestly asking for opinions.

Think I should just scrap the whole thing?

I think it comes down to a few things. One, since you're in an upper midwest city, how much under body and fender well rust is there? Also 4Runners tend to hold their value better in mountain/desert states like the Rocky Mountains, or other areas that four wheeling is more widely done.

I picked up my 4Runner here in Utah for $2500. It needs some things--rear shocks, new under hood hoses, fluids change, a good interior cleaning, but those aside, it's in pretty good shape. A good way to get the most for your vehicle is to clean it up really well. A clean vehicle typically has a better chance of selling despite other mechanical issues. Just my two cents worth.
 
I think it is priced very well, but this is an extremely bad time to be trying to sell a vehicle. posting photos of the frame might help too since vehicles in the northeast are so susceptible to rust issues.

If I were you I would hold off on selling until the situation improves
 
A lot of people on the forums look for clean vehicles that are somewhat built up for off-roading use. Not a ton of bargain hunters on here. Craiglist might also be a good alternative but lots of tire-kickers on there.

What O2runnersr5 said. I’d say it’s kind of a bad listing. 4runner looks good. I’d vacuum it, wash it, clean up the engine bay a bit and take some better pics including one of the frame. Most people that look for 3rd gen 4runners know enough about the frames rusting to want to see the frame

I'm in the market, so from a buyer's perspective, here's what I'd say:

You're pretty much just selling the drivetrain at this point. The body's gone (paint/clearcoat failure), the rust on the seatbelt bolt anchor and the front driver's seat, I've never actually seen before. Makes me wonder how bad the floorpans are (and the chassis too). Probably has rarely ever been garaged and looks like rust on every bolt, etc.

The sensor issues, etc are indicative of electrical shorts (probably from the rust). Seems like you have suspension issues, which is about right as it seems like it's original. Also, not sure if you have lockers? (Not that that matters much).

Coupled with this being a terrible time to sell. I'd personally skip it as I'm not looking for a project (like this). HOWEVER, if I were looking for a project/parts car, I'd offer maybe 750, assuming engine/trans are in tip top/maintained shape.

I will clean it up a little more and wait until Covid 19 is over to try to sell it.

I do think living in Michigan where these are not popular at all and having a good amount of rust will make it nearly impossible to sell.
 
i posted this in your FS thread, but if you are willing to take $1500 for it, i think you will easily make more than that parting it out. as someone else mentioned, the drivetrain has a lot of value with low mileage and i'm sure some of the interior bits would go quickly also.

I have a 99 and am having a harder and harder time finding parts.

Ive been thinking about that. Maybe ill part out as much as I can then send it to the junk yard.
 
I’ve always said anything that drives and runs is worth $1500 to somebody.

Just remember how old these 4runners are! There are not a lot of other vehicles of the vintage on the road. Nissans? Most in the wreckers. Toyota didn't drop the ball any more than any other manufacturer it's just that these trucks are still going.

Clean it up

If you clean it up, post pics of it cleaned up, someone will buy it especially since it runs. 1500.00 is a decent price for a running car. Very few 1500.00 old trucks are in perfect condition and if you are patient someone will offer you some cash. I got 1500.00 for an old yahama yfz quad that had a blown motor last week. It was a 2006 and had been in my garage for years just sitting. A simple ad on craigslist and people called non stop. Be patient and post lots of pics

Holy cow. I cant belive no one else said this.
I thought they were welded to the floor and the whole area rusted. Turns out it is a bolt and easy to replace. The floor is fine after inspection.

Yeah... try not to take advice about rust from West coast people.
