What is the T4R of the car world?

corolla xrs,cl type-s 5spd,rsx type-s,5 speed maxima se,honda s2000,sequoia,g35 coupe,08 silverado z71........God I love cars,out of all those I would take the acura cl type-s 5-speed....I dream about that car

Buy gm!

I'm gonna be the odd man out, and suggest another GM! I bought 2004 Impala LS with the 3.8L V6 in it. The motor is the very same as the 3.8L that was installed in the Buick Grand Nationals in the 80's, only they didn't turbo charge it. You can get the SS Impala with the same motor with a Supercharger, but I don't need that much speed. It's FWD, great in all weather, awesome for accelleration, rides great on the Hwy, side streets, even on dirt roads. The interior is well appointed with heated leather seats, sunroof, and completely loaded. It's extremely roomy, (I've got 2 car seats in the back) has a huge trunk (enough room for a double stroller, some booster cables, and even some groceries!) and kinda sporty looking with the fog lights, five spoke wheels, sunroof, and rear spoiler. After 30 000km of driving it, I've only had to clear a code from the computer for a loose gas cap (common issue I'm told). The car was purchased in 2008 for $9995.00, from a used car dealer, fully maintenanced, waxed, undercoated, new brakes and 2 sets of tires (winter and summer). The car averages anywhere from 25 - 30mpg on the hwy, and can pass anything I've tried to pass along the way!

If you go this route, I'd make sure that you get the Impala with the 3.8L in it, as I hear the 3.4L are known to have issues with Headgaskets. The 3.8L is a solid motor, that has had all it's bugs worked out, and can burn some rubber if need be!

2003 Acura TL type S? If i can't find a T4R ill be looking at those and the CL's, the two door equivalent. Im starting to think i won't be able to afford the gas (and the mods) for a T4R:sobbing:

hey chaser watch out for the tranny in the tl type-s.they crap the bed around 100,000 miles and are expensive to fix.The cl type-s with the five speed is a car that will go over 300,000 miles. As for the mods for the t4r they are better to do if you have an area where you can learn to do it youreself, unless you have alot of extra money.Sometimes I wonder where people get all the money to do the stuff they do,I make a pretty decent living too but i have even a hard time keeping up with maint. costs but mods are totally out of the question.

Yea the ones i look at, i make sure the transmission has been replaced anyways. As for the manual, well i dont particularly want one at schhol because its all mountains.

I'll throw out another vote for the IS300 i picked mine up with 32k miles on it and truly pushed that car hard all the way to 114k miles. We aren't talking normal ho hum driving either. That car had been from the midwest to CA a couple of times and to FL one as well. I don't drive slow i will push it to 130mph for LONG periods, and i usually did the drives almost straight through hardly giving the car a chance to rest.

As far as the car in the snow.... would never be my first choice but if you get a set of actual snow tires for it, and know how to drive it won't be a problem. I know people that have done it and i've even limped mine to the dnyo once or twice on bald performance tires in snow and ice. I would suggest looking for one with the "snow package" though as this will not only give you the magic snow button but also gives you the LSD.

the IS300's suck in the snow. Every winter i see a half a dozen or so of those things on the side of the road cause they just cant go anywhere when it's slick. The low profile tires plus the rear wheel drive its not gonna get you anywhere if there is snow or ice on the road. just keeps spinning... just keeps spinning... :)

Don't get me wrong They are pretty sick looking cars, and i would love to own one but i would probably only drive it in the summer.

Who would take an is300 out in the snow anyways? That's just dumb even though I did do it once in mine and never will again. If you plan on driving on ice... no vehicle is going to do well anyways.

in a place like southern California, snow doesnt exist on the mainland.

RWD = Win here.

If I ever want to go to the snow, trust I'll be in my 4Runner.

You get Toyotas legendary quality and 2JZ, while also having nice luxurious touches from a Lexus. I've never once met an owner dissatisfied with an IS300.

haha good point on the snow thing.

Great opinion! Couldn't agree with you more, being a previous is300 owner as well. It is the 4-Runner of the car world. It's a luxury toyota!

My is300 was the most reliable car I will ever own. I bought it with 54k miles, previous owner had the cd changer replaced and that was it. I only replaced 2 oxygen sensors until I sold it at 146k miles. The brakes even lasted 98k miles, I replaced them when I sold it. My car had the LSD option which is nice to have especially when I took it to a couple autocrosses. In the winter the car went nowhere with my summer tires. I later got some high performance all seasons and the car handled an inch or 2 fine. The engine sucks for gas mileage compared to modern engines. I got 17 -18 city and 25 highway on premium.

Another vote for Subaru! I've had 3. The most reliable vehicles i've ever had, cheap to fix, AWD, fun to drive... That's what i'd get if I had to get a car, no question about it

and yeah IMO rear wheel dive vehicles tend to be a little harder to drive in the snow then front wheel. You have more control in a front wheel drive cause all the power is pulling you from the front, while on a rear wheel drive your getting pushed from the back and it can cause you to fish tail a little easier then FWD

I'm going to have to disagree.

1 - The IS300 doesn't suck in the snow, the tires it comes with do. Put a set of good snows on it, and it won't be worse than any other car.

2 - I think you actually have more control with a RWD car in the snow than FWD (keep in mind that I am talking about a RWD car with snow tires). The advantage you have is with turning. You can actually use the wheels to help rotate the car in a turn. For example - say you try to make a turn in the snow, but you start to understeer. In a FWD car, there's not much you can do. Hitting the brakes will lock up the wheels, won't help much. And hitting the gas will spin the wheels causing the same effect. With RWD, you can give it a little gas to break the rear wheels free and rotate the car.

I suppose it takes a little more skill than the average driver, but people who live in cold climates should learn how to handle driving in the snow.

I've been driving a RWD car (with snow tires) with 400 ft-lbs of torque for the past several winters. It's honestly not as bad, scary, or dangerous as many people seem to think.

tough call..... t4r car equiv? hmmmm

I guess the only car on the road that is reliable, powerful and extremely good on fuel is a mk4 tdi... only the years from 2000-2002.. with the ALH engine. ( the good fast and cheap win...lol)

I modded mine at 350k to 140hp and 240 ftlbs and drove the #$%^ out of it till 550k when a board member bought it. of course everything still worked and it was pulling hard.

Makes me wonder why no diesel cars in north america...

A 1.9 TDI ALH with a VNT 17 turbo setup in a 3rd gen runner would be awsome!

IS300? No way! haha For me it's VW or Audi all the way. An MK4 Jetta can be found relatively cheap, they're a blast to drive and have a HUGE mod market. I miss my Jetta everyday. :bravo:

Does not equal...

but...

IS300Rel.jpg~original

pretty much does equal.

Sure reliability is not the only measure we could use for this topic, but it is one of the biggest draws to the 4runner. We talk about it all the time.

BTW: Red = Good, Black = Bad

I posted Audi merely as a subsidiary of the Vw family. Some people like the simplicity of Vw, others want the luxury that the Audi offers. That's all.

They are the same/similar base vehicles. VW reliability is very similar to Audi. They may be fun to drive and mod, but they are not very reliable.

It seems to me that reliability is really what makes the 4runner stand out from the pack, so the T4R of the car world should be the same, as well as extremely popular. So I would have to say Camry gets my vote.

haha ok i could go with that. I swear every winter i see a handful of those things stuck at an intersection with a slight slope cause they cant go anywhere. (and yeah, before i had my runner i would be the noob trying to push them up the hill) They probably had their summer tires. But yeah its wierd maybe its cause i like that car it always turns my head but i dont know if ive seen as many other cars out there get stuck like that.
