No no, he meant that those specific plugs all live on the same cylinder head and that gunked plugs from the same cylinder head might be indicative of a combustion issue.

Yes, and we're not saying the heads of the spark plug look weird, we're saying that all of those spark plugs are from the same CYLINDER HEAD of your engine.
That could indicate a combustion issue. :lol:
Edited to add: if you can't figure out what we're trying to tell you then I'm sorry we're not explaining it better. Also it looks like you have a V6 4th gen which are known to have headgasket issues...aka coolant in your combustion chamber. Good luck!

I got it just read it on my phone at work and replied. I have an 05 which from what I read was the year they fixed the HG issue. Never had any problems overheating or losing coolant. And I don't blow any white smoke unless its very cold and all the other cars are blowing white as well. White smoke goes away after heating up.
You can have head gaskets go bad on any vehicle. And you will not always get white smoke.
I had a Camry with the dreaded head bolt issue and no smoke at all.
Try rent one of those head gasket testers from the Auto store and see if the fluid changes color. Doesn't always work but its a start.

It's either the above^^, or it anti-sieze, looking at these sparkplugs there is absolutely nothing wrong with the combustion process of the engine, all of the electrodes A.K.A. the part of the sparkplug that is inside the combustion chamber and is where the "spark" happens all show normal color and no abnormal deposits!!
The only issues I see with the sparkplugs is the gap is much wider than it should be but expected on a plug needing to be replaced or re-gapped.
I say this from well over 45 years working on all types of vehicles, heavy equiptment, etc. and replacing 1000s of sparkplugs.

Change out my spark plugs today on my 05 4runner v6 and 5, 3, 1, all had gunk on them. My first time doing spark plugs on this vehicle. It is very thick so I don't think its oil I was thinking maybe the previous owner overdid it with the antisieze. Anyone know what it is?
I had the same issue.
You need to replace the Spark Plug Tube Gasket's.

Since your doing the valve cover gaskets, you should replace the Spark Plug Tube Gasket's.

As 2003-4x4runner stated, be sure that the sparkplug tube seals are also replaced as well as the valve cover gasket, they should be included when you buy the valve cover gaskets, but make sure they are in the package.

I have to admit being in the dark when it comes to auto repairs, I have never heard of these tube seals? But looked it up on the Utube and a quick look see as to what is being described.
