I once read a rather lengthy test review of a ton of diferent brand of oil filter. Some I've never even heard of before. It was a well done test, cutting several ov each brand of filter apart and anylizing the internals. Weights. materials, and a ton of other specs.
They also tested the filter, measuring holding capacity, filter microns, etc. It was a great test.
At the end of it all, they added up the scoring.
Shocking to find out that in this test, the motorcraft filter had the highest capacity to remove the smallest of particles. Second was the blue filter from Purolator One. It had a great ability to remove partilces but placed second because of it's holding capaicty. The testers even mentioned that this filter states a high holding capacity and the motorcraft does not. But the motorcraft out did it.
I also saw the same type of test conducted and they found the Purolator One to rank the best.
For this reason, I set up all my vehicles with remote mount filter and ran the big 3001 Purolator One filter.
I attribute all my vehicles long lives to this filter and synthetics.
The 1994 4Runner ( still going strong ) 216K now with my buddy.
