What oil filter other than OEM?

Need to change my oil today. What kind of filter should I use? Cant get Toyo because dealership is closed on Sundays.

That can't possibly be trued based on photos I've seen of autopsy photos.
The problem is knowing what filters are good and which are bad though.

A lot of them were the same because, well, they are the same. K&N and Mobil 1 are the same filter. Wix and Napa are the same filter.

The Toyota filter was shown to have almost twice as much filter media as the cheaper Fram type brands. If I remember correctly the Wix/Napa, Mobil 1/K&N, Purolator filters were found to have better internals and media.

I want someone to cut open some of the supposedly better brands like Baldwin and Donaldson to see what they are made of.

If no chance of obtaining a oem toyota filter made by denso than I would look for a "denso first time fit" filter. Not sure if the regular parts stores carry them yet. In a bind, and regardless of cost I would buy a mobil one or knn, from the autopsy posts I have read they have good internals like others have posted.

^^^^This and I have seen really good research on the Amsoil extended drain filters as well but they are pricey!

They are not all the same. :fencing:
The cheap Fram & the cheap Purolator are crap & I'm sure there are others low end ones.
I'm using Wix. $5 from Amazon with a 5 Gallon jug of Quaker State for under $14.

I find no need to buy a friggin Toyota oil filter. Wix is good stuff. Also their air filters are a nice snug fit.

Ended up going with Mobil 1.
Next time back to Toyota. Toyota filters are about the cheapest option I could go with. Thanks for the input. I am also changing my oil cooler O-ring and seals. I am making a video. Will post up a new thread when its done.

Filter at 10K and oil at 5K per post 109.

Next oil test I will see if I am good to do 6K oil / 12K filter.

Oil will need to be pretty damn good still at 5K for me to consider 6K (I think it will be). Even if it is excellent at 6K, I will not exceed 6k on my 4runners.
