What oil filter other than OEM?

I always use OEM Toyota oil filters on all my cars (ordered by the case), but if I'm in a pinch I go for either a Bosch or Napa Gold filter.

Only NAPA we have in town is closed on Sundays. Only Bosch I could find were some kind of high mileage filter. I don't want anything they put in there in my oil so I passed and went with MB1.

I find no need to buy a friggin Toyota oil filter. Wix is good stuff. Also their air filters are a nice snug fit.

I use to use aftermarket oil filters way back in the stone ages, but ever since a mechanic friend of mine suggested always using OEM filters, that's what I did. OEM filters are not expensive so why not use what the manufacturer spec'd for the truck. I doubt any other similarly priced oil filter is better than OEM.

I thought the same, but if you look at how many times since 1996 that Toyota changed their oil filter part numbers for different designs, it makes you wonder if it really matters that much. An oil filter is a simple part and honestly you could use Wix filters and go just as far.

This is my thinking. Cheap insurance.

1) Toyota filter has the "best" & most paper material.
2) Fram & Pennzoil filters are identical and very cheaply made.
3) STP, K&N & Mobil1 filters are identical despite the price difference.
4) Bosch filter has more material than others (excluding OEM).
5) TRD filter has "fancy" paper.

A lot of them were the same because, well, they are the same. K&N and Mobil 1 are the same filter. Wix and Napa are the same filter.

The Toyota filter was shown to have almost twice as much filter media as the cheaper Fram type brands. If I remember correctly the Wix/Napa, Mobil 1/K&N, Purolator filters were found to have better internals and media.

I want someone to cut open some of the supposedly better brands like Baldwin and Donaldson to see what they are made of.

To my knowledge not all Napa filters are created equal. Only the Napa Gold lines are essentially Wix filters.
