What to do transmission fill hole stripped/broken

Hey all, I was just trying to find a leak when I stumbled across this crap. It seems whoever worked on this last broke the transmission fill plug hole. Here's a pic. My brother was telling me I might be able to take it to a weld shop and get them to weld a threaded sleeve on to buy me a bit of time till I find a replacement. I got a G58 5th manual.

Any insight is much appreciated. Thx.

Kinda hard to tell what's going on in that pic. What do you mean "broke the transmission fill plug hole"? Is the plug broken off in the hole? Is the casing around the hole cracked? Are the threads stripped?

I have the plug it'sfine but I some of the hole (casting ) about 3/4 is broke off on the transmission. Can i weld a threaded sleeve onto the transmissoon case?

Oh I see. The problem with a welded sleeve is getting the threads to line up. They'll probably want to drill that hole out and replace the whole thing with a new bung.

Yes, agree. Replace or build up that flat ring surface, and thread hole with a bigger one.
