Ok, so like most of u guys i cant leave my ride stock... i tend to modify any car to a certain extent. Im going to be replacing the shocks soon and wanted to do a very mild lift (coil spacers) while i had things apart, but its only a 2wd model and not sure if that would be stupid or not... its mainly street driven but may hit a dirt trail once every so often, nothing nasty enough to need to be lifted.. mainly for a cosmetic thing..other mods planned for the future would be a Satoshi grill, leds all around, intake & exhaust(at some point)..mainly cosmetic

Another concern i have is the coil spacers... how safe are they? They look like they just sit in place and arent secured other than being sandwiched between the coil and shock mount
 
for what your trying to do, spacers would be just fine, they are safe enough, i would say the only time they aren't safe is some of the home made jobs I've seen over the years, but 99% of store brought ones are made from good materials and should be perfectly ok, look at daystar or cornfed spacer lifts, i think they have them on toytech along with some of the other sponsors of the site also sell them.

there is nothing wrong with a minor spacer lift if you just going for cosmetic effect and may actually improve the ride depending on how worn your coils are...that's highly debatable though and don't count on it...though i would suggest replacing coils at this point if your doing shocks as well, as putting the coil over assy together sucks and you really only want to fool with it once if you can.....so i guess look how much , coils,spacers, and shocks are going to cost you and put it up against a proper lift and see what you want to do as it may be a better value for money to just lift it with a proper kit...that said though if you decide to go spacer lift for looks there's nothing wrong with that at all.
 
Well.. for shocks i was gonna go with KYB Gas-a-just or Monomax.. i can get them for $200-220 for all 4.. was thinking of trying the 99 coils, but not sure what the difference is....why do u think coils need to be replaced?

If the coil assembly is anything like my Integra then its not that bad... dont know how many times ive done that now..lol

If your trying to go with a mild suspension lift spacer kit, just do the Daystar Comfort Ride Polyurethane Coil Spacer Lift.
It will give you roughly around 2.5" of added ride height and it won't be stupid.
You could pull off having 31's on there as well.
I had Daystar before I did my Bilsteins. I trust them. They also make the ride more comfy.

I never changed out my coils when I did my Daystar lift. He was just saying for piece of mind and to have a "like-new" suspension feel, you could go with newer coils. If their not rusted to death, they should be fine.

If you are talking about the front they would be sandwiched between the spring and top plate or the type that bolt between the top plate and mount....those aren't going anywhere as they are bolted down or held by the spring compression.

The rear spacers are held by the weight of your truck but so are your springs. You wont have problems unless you buy shocks with too much travel for your spring/spacer combo.

what brian said though mileage is a factor as well, basically if your not sagging right now and are trying to save some cash don't worry about it..

and doing the coil over assy on this will be much much harder than your integra, just due to the size of the coils alone...be prepared as i've had some that have been realtivly easy and some that have been nightmares....

Hmm.. $210 for the 2.5" kit... or i could go with 1.25 f/ 1.5 r for $80... the 1.5" is more what i was looking for... probably what ill end up going with since i plan on running the 265/70's... tax time needs to hurry up
 
So, im sitting here looking thru build threads and i noticed in stock form, the 4wd looks taller than the 2wd... is it? If so, by how much?
 
1.5" lift sounds like more of what you want anyway. And I am not sure of lift differences. I know there is a thread that compares years and models with their height differences. Sorry I dont have a definitive answer.
 
One thing i noticed when looking on the Toyota site is they have springs for 2wd w/o 16's and 2wd w/ 16's... im guessing the one with the optional 16's are higher to accommodate the larger tire

if your going with new coils you want tge '99 16 inch rim with 4wd, they are nine wraps, and the first one mentioned in the link i posted, going with those should give you about an inch of lift depending on where you sit now, the '99 ones listed was as tall that ever came stock on a 3rd gen 4runner, going with any of the other coils would be a waste imo, that is if your swapping coils to begin with.
 
Its either spacers or taller coils.. but the price of new coils vs the price of spacers is the deal breaker..also still trying to decide if im going to get the KYB Gas-a-just or the stiffer Monomax
