Whats a good price for 04 Limited V8 4X4

I am in market for a 4R.
I am from St. Louis, MO area. I am interested in 05 SE V8 4X4.
When I had been to a dealer, the sales guy showed me 04 Limited V8 4X4 and said he would give me a good deal. It had around 40 miles on its odometer. When I asked him about his quote for the 04 Limited.....he was mumbling around invoice....I was really pissed off. Can anyone tell me whats a reasonable price for 04 Limited please.
What should I really be concerned of if I am taking 04 V8 in stead of 05 V8.

Unless they give you the 04 for a couple of K below invoice it will not be worth it.

The 05 have the new V8 engine, which will make it more sought after in a few years when you try to sell it, plus gives you the extra in the mean time. And the 05's trade in will be a few k more than the 04 down the line.

ANd some guys are already getting killer deals on the 05s.

They are trying to dump the 04, so they need to dump it way below invoice or else they can keep it. Fill in the options on KBB and put in 40 miles. Then see the retail value. This is the starting you should aim for and going down not up.

If they dont give you an absolute sweetheart deal on the 04, just squeeze hard for the 05.

SO summary:
05 more power and soem other changes (mostly cosmetic whether we like it or not)
04 lower trade in value down the line (by as much as a few k just due to model year, this doesn't even include engine upgrade)
04 has been sitting on the lot a lot longer than 05

The last time I was at the local dealer (getting my T4R serviced), I noticed a similar new 2004 4wd Limited marked at $8000 off MSRP. From my estimations that would be ~$2000 under invoice. Which is backed up by the fact that in my area Toyota is offering a $2000 incentive for 2004 4runners, so I'll bet my dealer is selling for invoice -$2000 and pocketing the $2000 incentive.

If we're talking about a Limited w/ a MSRP of $43,043 - $8000 = $35,043. As a used car (according to KBB) a 2004 Limited 4wd w/ nav and 200 miles is worth around $33,625

Minor drawback you wouldn't be getting the VVTi V8.

The biggest drawback would be you're buying a year old new vehicle. If you expect to sell this vehicle in a year or two you probably want to pass. If you plan on keeping it for a while you could be getting a deal if you can live w/o the VVTi, and you want the added features of the limited.

Is there really that big of a difference between the two engines? I never drove in the new 05 V8 and I am completely happy with 04. Unless it gets much better gas mileage I don't see any problems with the 04 V8. Just a look from another angle. You really gotta think is the new engine worth it and then decide.

if it was only the engine issue. The new V8 is an improvement on the old one. SOme people have owned both and remarked on it.

The thing however is that it is also a difference in model year. So at some point he might decide to trade it in or sell it, then there can be a substantial difference in price he can get. Especially when hings like engine changes happened, as it will greatly depend on what the market thinks at that time.

I still have the old V8 and I'm happy with it, so much so that I'm not willing to spend all that money to get a new one.

Thank you again. I can say for sure that my query has been answered way better on this forum than any other Toyota dealership I have been to.
I think I will go for 05 V8 4X4
