I lived in Connecticut my whole life. In 1989 I purchased a 1988 4Runner V6 SR5 manual 5-speed with all the options except the rear heater, it had 10K miles on it. The guy I bought it from was a co-worker and a freak about maintaining it, he just couldn’t afford it. I’ve had it garaged for about 90% of the time I’ve had it. I had it off-road in the sand dunes of Cape Cod twice. Other than that I had just used the 4WD in the Winter as needed. There is only minimal rust by a couple of the fenders. It did get scraped by a tree once and the driver side door skin was replaced and there was some bondo put in after the door before the rear fender for the same incident. The rest of the body just has some dings here n there as expected and there is some pitting on the leading edge of the hood from roadway sand kicked up. The antenna is broke off. I’ve never had the head gasket ( amazing from what I hear ) nor radiator replaced and it has 199,850 miles on it. I replaced the guts in the rear window 3 years ago. I haven’t used it much in the past 3 years. I got married, had kids, got sick, recovered, intense corporate job……no time for the truck I always dreamed of, sad. I never even took the top off for an extended period until a few years ago. It starts on the first crank and is still insured and still registered. I need to make a decision. It needs brake work, it lost most of the brake fluid, must be either a caliper, master cylinder, or a line, who knows, I have like zero time to even climb under it and scope it out. I have the original alloy rims and a spare set of Toyota alloy rims for it. It’s dark blue with that dark gray-blue interior, black removal top, it has a factory sunroof. I feel like it still has a lot of life left in it, I never beat on it. I only had to replace the clutch in it once since I’ve had it. I replaced the timing belt twice, other than that not much abnormal work done to it, nothing else with the engine or the tranny / drivetrain. The only time it stranded me ever was when a slave cylinder on the clutch went, an incredible record of reliability considering all the places I went in it. Added bonus, it comes with a Phish bumper sticker. So I’m trying to decide, fix it up and get it road worthy for another 3 years or sell it ? Any quesstimates out there on what it is worth on the open market ?
