What's Normal Idle RPM's?

so I've only have my 2000 sport for about 2 weeks now and it's my first Toyota so I don't know. What's the normal RPM on start up and just stops?
It's showing about 1500 just on start up and when I come to a light it's staying at around 700-800?

Is that normal? I can't just let off the brake or it will lurch forward on me. I'm use to a car just staying put till I say it's time to go.

thanks

As long as the idle drops down to about 750 +-100 in park when fully warmed up, you're good.

And automatics have a tendancy to creep foward with the brake off...

Mine idles between 550-650 when warm.

Also, automatics are supposed to creep forward when letting off the brake without applying the throttle. Define “lurch”?

What causes two identical engines to idle at different RPMs?

A lot of factors. Compression rates (an engine with the same compression across all cylinders idles better than one with varying compression), maintenance, plus any modifications done.

Mine idles about 590 RPM in drive, 700 in park but that's because of my fuel and intake delivery. It used to be higher before I messed around with it.

For the OP, yes all automatics creep forward. Makes parking easy though!
