The cabin filters have a very small amount of charcoal in them, they’re not really that effective. Ozone treatment is the way to go.

Turn on the truck with the A/C on, turn the fan on high, & leave the windows open. Then go outside and spray a can of Lysol into the fresh air cowl vents by the windshield.
Spray a little at a time, let it sit for a few seconds, then do it again. It'll get rid of the smell and disinfect the vents and duct system.
Usually about half a can is enough, but in your case you might want to use the whole thing.

I read somewhere, I think it was here, that GM has a procedure where they leave the heater on full blast with the windows closed to kill whatever is growing in the HVAC system. I remember they can get it to 140° in the truck doing that.
