Well, today i was cruising along on the wonderful craigslist and seen a Toyota E-locker out w/ 3rd member and i believe it has 4:10 Gears...not real sure???

Believe me by no means am i a mechanic!! So i am definately going to be asking millions of questions!!! I have been lookin around at all the threads about retro-fitting the ELOCKER so I hope i have as much success as everyone else....

My biggest concern is that i do NOT have a ELOCKER HOUSING...i have read some threads that says you can modify the NON elocker housing to work.....

Here are a few pics of the Elocker & 3rd member....please tell me what i am MISSING and what I need to get? I also need to find out how you figure out what your gear ration is in the front Diff??

Here's a side profile pic of the housing, Unfortunately i have nothing to plug into that plug...The guy only had this and the switch for the inside of the cab....

How do i get the bolt that broke off in the housing out w/o screwing up the housing??

It's easy to make your housing work. A good bit of grinding and notching the housing Is all it takes. You can buy the gasket and use it as a template it make one off of your diff.

Second you can get the pins and plug that your missing from Toyota. Do a search to find the wiring how to over on 4x4wire.

For the gear ratio count the ring gear teeth and divide that by the pinion teeth and that's your ratio. Either a 4.10 or 4.30.

I would also pull and clean the actuator while it's out and on the ground, they can get gummed up over time. Good how to on pirate.

Order the 12voltguy wiring harness, makes it real easy.

You have everything you need there, you just need to modify the housing

I bet the gear ratio on that 3rd is 4.30

i dont know what pins and plugs i am missing and my local toyota dealership, parts guy....is a complete DUMBY

inch worm gear has a control kit for $75 and look for paint on the pinion gear by the flange blue is 4.30 or a stamp on the ring gear there you can find the ratio

you don't even know what ratio it is, or what ratio your truck has. If it's different, it won't work without re-gearing the front diff. Call your local Toyota parts dept. with your VIN# and they can tell you what ratio is in your truck. Then, use the provided info to figure out what ratio the E-locked 3rd is. Then talk about getting help installing it and buying beer.

ARKRWLR made a great writeup on how to do the wiring yourself. Very easy if you follow the directions. I followed these same instructions and things went smoothly for me.

You will also need an elocker harness. I got my particular harness at Lowrange Offroad, it's OEM Toyota and was the cheapest I could find new.

Toyota E-locker Wiring Harness.

I found a cheap Elocker rear axle housing for $40 on craigslist and installed that instead of modifying my stock housing. I didn't want to risk messing something up. Many have done it, but the choice is yours.

Hope this helps, good luck.

I called my local Toyota Parts dept. this afternoon, gave them my VIN # and they said they couldnt tell me what the gear ratio is?? I know that i have to have to same gear ration in the front as rear...and know that if its different i have to re-gear...if, i have to regear i will....I want it installed as quick as i can....SO i think its the perfect time to talk about getting help installing it...and when isnt there a good time for BEER??? Thats why i got Benjamins in my wallet, to buy what is neccessary very quickly get this bad boy installed!!!

You could check your door code for gear ratio, but some people have said it is unreliable.

Should be something along the lines of AxxA

01 = 3.42
02 = 3.58
03 = 4.10
04 = 4.56
05 = 3.15
06 = 3.91
07 = 4.30*

Best way to test would be jacking up a tire and doing the spin test.

Why can't people say this who live close to me??

Forgot to add, it shouldn't be hard at all to drill out that broken stud and tap some new threads. It'll take you 5 minutes so don't let that worry you.

Finally some sense. All non-lorkered 3rd gens where 4:10. All locked where 4:30, the 4Cly with locker which I believe is rather rare had 4:56s. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Gearratiosanddiffs

I can pretty much guarantee you have 4.10's stock

You can drive around with different gear ratios in 2wd, just don't flip it into 4wd or AWD

I just went out and looked at my Runners door jam....(from the info on the link you gave me) you are right....I have a 4:10 gear ratio....

Durrrr. lol
Yeah, you will need to find some 4:30 gears for the front if you want this to come together without ****ing your entire rig up... just some food for thought.lol

Not true. Generally the v6 manuals are geared 4.10. Generally the v6 autos are 4.30. Both were available with lockers. The only way to be sure what gears you have is the spin test. Takes two minutes. Well worth the time.
