Whats your favorite style of OEM bumper?

I've always loved the normal bumpers of 96-98 4runners. Especially the chrome ones, you can't get that on a new SUV anymore. The grey base model bumpers are okay too. The desert dune bumpers haven't aged well. Later they started paint matching the bumpers which certainly modernizes the appearance at the expense of losing old school charm. Also makes it look very close to a 4th gen.

But there is a whole crowd who likes the later fatlip bumpers from post 99. I just want to see where people stand when it comes to the appearance (not considering the crash protection or fog lamps) of the stock bumper. In the poll painted can refer to paint matched bumper or desert dune color, whatever you prefer.

This is a tough one for me because I like the color matched fat lip bumper but I also adore the simplicity and low profile of the grey slim bumper. My first 4Runner (96 base 3RZ) had the low profile bumper and it looked SO good. My current rig has the chrome fat lip bumper. It's definitely eh for me. If mine were color matched then that would be one thing, but it's not. I think I'm gonna vote for the slim bumper.

I second the chromes on my 98 limited. A little pitted from age but shine up pretty good.

I have a 98 in chrome and 99 in paint and prefer the clean lines of the earlier one. The fat lip looks fine head on but oh so silly viewed from the side. The FL moniker is spot on

I like the chrome 96-98 bumpers cause duh, that's what I bought because I liked how it looked.

Someone in my neighborhood has a red 4Runner with the red painted bumpers and although I don't like other painted ones as much, that one just looks really clean. Also helps that the entire paint job is pristine.

I don’t dislike either of the bumper styles, but I think it looks good when people trim the edges of the older, thin style bumpers. I have a chrome fat-lip bumper, but I don’t mind it because my 4R is black. I don’t know how I’d feel about the blacked-out look if my bumpers were color matched.
