Wheelers Offroad - BEWARE of return policy

So I spent over $830 within the last (2) months at Wheelers Offroad on springs/shocks/spacers/wheel spacers/etc. I was not able to get all the work done on our two 4Runner's ('03 and '10) within their 30-day period for returns. I ended up not using all the spacers (a couple of different top plate spacers and an OME rear trim spacer) and a set of top plate studs. Keep in mind this stuff is brand new and never installed. I called to try and return these items so I could get about $65 back after spending over $830. "Sorry, we can't credit your card, it's been over 30 days. We can give you a store credit." I just spent $830 at this place, I don't need to buy anything else right now, is it really too much to credit my card about $65??? or even less after they take out their restocking fee. By the way, the orders were placed on 9/28 and 10/13. I'm all done with this "preferred" vendor.

To the extent the parts I've bought have been available on Summit Racing and other websites, that's where I've bought it from. They will bend over backwards to make you happy, and there's no BS "restocking" fee. I got burned with that *once* and told the company that I'd spread the word about their practices.

I guess, a policy is a policy. if you are running a business, you can't bend the rules about it. I'm not trying to side my views with the company and I am just trying to be fair. You could have accepted their store credit or if not, sell it on ebay.

Why did you post this in both the 5th gen and 4th gen section?

I think they did enough considering they offered store credit after the 30 return policy.

Because we have a 4th gen and a 5th gen and the parts ordered were for both.

shitty situation but rules are rules. They sell high end equipment so 800 bucks may be large to you, but to a store that sells stuff with an avg price of $1100 (coilovers). Its a drop in the bucket.

Pay the restocking fee and take store credit and learn from it next time. This is more buy negligence than a problem with their return policy.

My beef with wheelers is their lack of shipping charges known up front. Now THAT is annoying.

I'm sure their policy is posted, and offering to take everything back for a store credit is more than generous. In fact, it might be that they can't even return parts that are older than 30 days to their suppliers, so they don't want to be left with excess stock that could be months and months old after everything has already been paid for.

So I'll sum it up as saying maybe they're better off not having customers like you. They offered you a resolution based on their published policies, and you're making it personal and trying to drag their name through the mud everywhere.

agreed rules are rules but its kind of a strong arm tactic to only offer up a in store credit. I usually don't shop at places like that if a person takes the time to purchase from them, then they should have a option to return for store credit or the cash if the items aren't even used in the end its really not a big deal for the stores but thats my opinion. Most of the place defect it out send it back to the maker who refurbs it and credits the store. But again they make their rules and it is what it is.

Maybe a little strict at <60 days but what you posted with all due respect means nothing. Doesn't seem out of the ordinary policy wise and it wouldn't prevent me from buying from them. If they were rude and/or disrespectful that would be worth sharing but they offered you credit which means they are actually working with you to help resolve your situation. I'll bet you'll sell the extras in no time.

I don't see the issue here. Looks to me they clearly stated their policy.

I've purchased numerous things from them and have received excellent customer service. They were far cheaper than anyone else when I purchased my billsteins.

Most small shops don't carry much inventory, as they'd sink with having tons of money tied up across low volume sellers. It's not like returning something to Wal-Mart, and it was likely drop shipped direct to the end user. Hence they're going to put it on the shelf and hope they can sell it later.

So when the window for the shop to return it to their distributor closes, many will not take returns for a full refund, as essentially they'd be buying stock from their suppliers at the full street price.

Thus the store credit at least ensures they're roughly putting that part on the shelf for their distribution price.

I guess the lesson here is, buy the parts when you are ready to install it rightaway or a few days after you receive it. that's what I do if I plan on returning stuff that I may not be able to use.

I think it's a little ridiculous that you kept stock past their policy, didn't like what was offered in return, and then immediately tried to call them out on blast. What they did was nothing wrong, nor was it terrible customer service. Take the credit, or turn around and sell the parts yourself. If they completely burned you and told you to f off, that's something completely different to write home about.

I've had great service from Wheeler's and like LTDSC said, their shipping costs would be nice to know up front, but otherwise they're a stand up shop and I don't feel they did you any wrong.
