Wheeling destinations out West - Recommendations pls

I'm curious if there are any events in Moab, or other iconic off-road destinations that you guys would recommend?

I live out east but seeing all the wheeling vids from Moab, Colorado, So-Cal has me wanting to experience it. I was thinking of renting a Jeep or something out there since transporting my vehicles is not an option, and hooking up with a group to spend a few days wheeling with.

This has to exist, right?

If not Moab, what other places and events would you recommend I look into?

I think the FJ summit would be a blast but after reading more about it, it may be too "car showy" for what I'm looking for.

You could check and see if they would let you run in a jeep but the first weekend in May there's a Toyota event held in Moab.
It's put on by the Rising sun 4wd club out of Colorado with over 170 Toyotas
You must be a TLCA member to attend. Cruise Moab

You can also contact local clubs in the area your going and see about tagging along on a club run.

When do you plan on coming out?

In SoCal a few mention worthy places would be Johnson valley, big bear, ocotillo wells/Truckhaven, calico
There’s something for every vehicle and skill level imaginable all within a few hours drive

But out of California Moab is clearly #1

For larger events there’s this coming up in June ie4w
Heard nothing but good things about that event but have yet to make it

And last year we held a first annual SoCal Toyota Fest out in Calico during September.

Moab is wonderful, the San Juan mountains are beautiful, and California has ALOT to offer (Death Valley, Mojave, Pismo, Pacific Coast Highway, Big Sur, Joshua Tree, the list goes on...) If you're going in summer Moab and the California deserts will be very hot. The San Juans in Colorado will be amazing, temperature wise. I'm sure there's rental companies at all of them. No chance of doing a road trip with your 4Runner or Tacoma? It's a lot more fun in my opinion to take your own vehicle out there instead of renting one.

I try to stay away from the big events, too many people, the trails get clogged up, etc. Try and hook up with another member or two from here or Tacomaworld, or go solo. I did Moab, the San Juans, and California solo (minus accidentally meeting up with a couple guys from TW for a couple days in Moab) and it was really nice.
