I'll be honest, a lot of vehicles should not have counted. Some perfectly good LC80 and LC100's unfortunately died by my hand. Though I won't lie, getting paid to basically blow up a car was a damn fun summer (blew up so many Previas. >:3 )

Also Mine died last month. Spun the rod bearing. I dont blame the runner though. It was my fault for lack of oil. Front and rear seals were leaking and i kept forgetting to check it and fill it. So wet pavement 35" mud tire with no traction on wet pavement and low oil killed mine

That makes me sad... They were far too liberal with what constituted a "Clunker," ruined a lot of perfectly good engines. At least their bodies and non-engine related components were sold off to junkyards. You might not be able to get a spare engine component from them, but everything else was free game at the pick your parts. Some of the vehicles I had to "put down" honestly made me feel sad.
 
That cash for clunkers program was one of the biggest boondoggles in recent memory. None of the problem that actually led to the "great recession" (precipitating the need for such economic stimulus) have been addressed... And boost car sales to save car companies (ahem, 2 of the big 3) which made dismally poor business decisions, oh please... Such a waste, and the whole "car makers should produce the cars Americans want to buy..." What a f'ing joke. I'd say the "market" had more to do with that. More accurate would be: "produce the cars that the government wants the people to want to buy.."

As BlackWorksInc said, at least other parts off those cars went to the used part market.....
 
I didn't realize that's what they did with the Cash for Clunkers program. I knew that program killed a lot of good cars and was an idiotic waste that screwed the used car market, but watching the video of him being forced to kill the 4Runner and that Land Cruiser pained me.
