Where Should I Buy my Timing Belt Kit?

Hey guys, one question.

Have you guys had good luck with "OEM" Timing Belt kits on ebay for cheap? Today I received my OEM ignition coils for my 2006 Civic and turns out they were counterfeits (they weighted less, didn't say Denso on the bottom, label looked counterfeit, and they were cheap for 4 of them on ebay). I phoned my local Honda dealership and they wanted $500+ for 4 coil packs so they were obviously fake. Now I have a small fear of buying "OEM" parts on ebay after this one. Thats where I mostly get my parts if the dealership price is too expensive. Today I bought Denso made ones on Amazon for $160.

Now to the 4Runner, the timing belt on it right now is possibly the original one at 220k. Being a non interference engine, It's not a big deal if it snaps. I see the ebay kits being around $300 - $400. Are they legit? If not, do you guys get the parts off the dealership and pay the big price tag? I'm wondering since i'm now aware of the counterfeit parts out there on ebay. Any answer is appreciated. Thanks.

AirCabinMan on ebay is a legit seller who sources OEM parts. The Aisin kit is also highly recommended. Its about 100 bucks cheaper when you consider all the extra parts that come with the most expensive AirCabinMan kit....

I will consider AirCabinMan kit when I have the chance to purchase it! I hate scumbags that sell counterfeit parts.

Correct the Aisin kit would contain the parts that OEM part supplier are. I believe I bought the kit from AirCabinman for my 1997 5 speed. I was very pleased with the parts and the AISIN water pump is the OEM supplier only difference is the casting says ASIN instead of Toyota. Well naturally the cost is less as well ..

When I did mine years ago, I bought the parts at the dealership. They took a little over 20% off the list price. In my view, it's such a big job that trying to cut a few bucks off and taking a risk of not getting OEM parts isn't worth it. And if there's a problem, I don't have to contact an eBay seller to get it resolved.

I've used 3 kits from AirCabinman in 12 yr, got Toyota parts each time. This last time WP had Aisin on it, no biggy.

This is the Aisin kit I used and many others on here use, got it from Amazon. $175 with free shipping. It has all of the basic things you need for a timing belt job but won't include the cam/crank seals, new V belts and a few other things like the aircabinman kit.

If your seals aren't leaking, I'd probably leave them. If you want to remove the cam seals, you'll need some way of holding the cam gears to get the bolt off (I had to make a tool).

Will buy again as I've have no problems since I bought it like 2012-2013 I believe. Local mechanic did the labor.

Guys is there any downside to buying these and storing them in the basement for 1-2yrs?? Let's say there's an ebay sale.

I would say no problem at all storing them. Most of these are "hard" parts that will not just go bad due to age. I would just put a few of those "dessicant pack" in the box to draw any moisture and prevent surface corrosion in the possibly damp basement.

96Red I didn't change seals at 125k, I did at 250k, due at 375k hit 374k got totaled.
Replacement 01 198k mi I used everything in kit to start fresh, hopefully I have a choice next time.

I kept TB kit on shelf couple years no problems packed as shipped.

I second [MENTION=266619]thennen[/MENTION]'s post. My local Toyota dealer drops their prices to be competitive with online prices so if yours will do the same, it's the only way to go IMHO.

I've only had one dealer (Mazda) not adjust prices when asked and they are no longer in business. I have asked Porsche, Mazda, Toyota and VW dealers, all with success.

Plus there's the added benefits of easier returns and supporting the local economy.

When I changed my timing belt I went with the aircabinman 15 piece because it included just about everything I was going to replace anyways.

I'll always hit the dealer up when it comes to important parts. It pays to call around too. Get a few prices and then reach out again asking if they can beat other nearby dealer prices.
