Where to buy inner tie rod jam nut?

tl;dr- Searched several forum sites + Google and came up empty handed. Can anyone tell me the PN or even an aftermarket source for the 22mm jam nut found on the inner tie rod of a 2008 SR5 V8?


Full story- Changed my tie rod ends yesterday, was some of the toughest damn work I’ve done on her yet. I say this after probably 50+ jobs, from swapping dash bulbs to fluid exchanges to brake work to two spring/shock swaps.

Everything went smooth until it came to backing off the inner tie rod jam nuts... They were either the epitome of seized or King Kong himself did my last alignment.

The passenger side eventually gave in after a third PB Blaster soak and a ridiculous pull on a combination wrench + cheater bar. The driver’s side had decided it wasn’t coming off alive though, so after everything I could think of- copious amounts of PB Blaster + soak time to bottle jack assist to MAPP heat, an 18” pipe wrench + deadlift style pull was what broke it free. Let’s just say it’s no longer serviceable by the intended 22mm combination wrench.

Knowing I need an alignment after this install, I want to replace said nut before taking to the shop.

Most likely part of an assembly, so suggest checking out a local savage yard.

I can't find the nut by itself on any dealer parts website, I can see it on the steering assembly exploded view but there's no listing for it nor a part number so it maybe sold with the tierod end, but you may try your local dealership to see if they can help, or otherwise as mentioned try a local savage yard.

If worst comes to worst, you could buy cheap inners at any auto parts store that comes with new jam nuts.. just an idea

Thanks for the ideas. I saw it on all of the schematics too but w/out a PN I assumed the same, possibly not sold alone, by Toyota anyway.

Burt: Your call is undoubetdly the cheapest but if I ever have to monkey with another used 4R tie rod again it’ll be too soon.

I’ve been liking McGeorge Toyota Parts Online a lot so shot my guy there an email asking if it can be sourced through Toyota. Kind of weird because the tie rod end castle nut has a PN and can be ordered...

If I can’t find one anywhere, I like the idea of finding some cheap inners and just keeping the nuts.

Edit: What about some Grade 8 nuts in the correct size from a local Ace Hardware?

Nice. Went to the local Ace and they didn’t carry the size, said no one in town was likely to. There’s a hardware warehouse in Corona I’ll check out, they’ve got everything.

Size is M14-1.5 if anyone finds them self in the same boat.

Edit- Just heard back from Toy parts counter, PN is 90170-15001.

Size is M14-1.5 if anyone finds them self in the same boat.

Doing an online search says that my local Home Depot has that size, I doubt it a grade 8 but I agree I don't think it would be need to be since it not under any load and only a locknut.

Reviving an old thread. I had the same issue today with a nut that wouldn’t come off on one side. I had to break it off. It’s not an M14-1.5 nut. That’s a common size. M14 was too small, and M16 fit, but was loose, at my local Ace Hardware. It’s a custom nut, ~M15, but no one has such a nut, except Toyota (and custom hardware sites who want $12 for one nut.)

My local Toyota dealer was able to order the nut for me this afternoon. They’ll have it first thing in the morning tomorrow. Thanks for the part #, I was able to verify that they ordered the correct part!
