whew!!!

I know this is a Runner site, but I just changed my front struts on my 01 Tundra. Not sure if I'm bragging or admitting pure stupidity..... Those coils are frigging dangerous. Thank God for my cat like reflexes. One spring came flying off, bounced up and knocked the garage door off its track. Luckily after I removed the nut I reached for a hammer cos the top plate was a little bound up. I leaned to my left and it shot to the right. Otherwise I'm guessing a few teeth and my bottom jaw would have been sacrificed.

Im scared he was using a spring compressor!! those things are scary!

And if it flew off and knocked the garage door off, It would do more than just break your jaw... you would be dead.

x2! If it knocked the garage door off the tracks after it flew a few feet, then just imagine what it will do to your face from point-blank distance?!! You'll either be dead or desparately looking for a plastic surgeon to do reconstructive surgery on your face!

If you're religious, then know that someone up there is looking after you...if you're not religious, then go out and buy a lottery ticket ASAP!!

The garage door isn't a "garage door" like most of you know it. It's more of a tin shed roll up door. But still... I used a spring compressor, but not to remove the spring from the strut. The first one popped up about an inch, so I assumed that was normal. Obviously it wasn't....

And absolutely yes, someone was watching my ass. I'll grab my ticket today for sure.

And the truck looks great and rides like a dream again!!! Well worth it.

Glad you are ok, we put up warnings on almost every post about Spring compressors,

I almost would rather take them to a shop and pay for them to use a "safe" one than use the harbor freight ones you can rent at the parts store.
