I know it's my first post, but I just found this website the other day. I'm on my way to take a look at two runners. First a 1995 with a 183,000 for $2,500 and the a 1999 with 220,000 for $3,500. Both are in comparable shape and look pretty good on the maintenance history with the edge going to the 1995. Is the 1999 worth an extra $1000.

Spider, Welcome.....I hope you get more repsonses than I have in the past with thoughts/opnions requested...but then again I'm sure the long time members get sick of seeing the same " should I do this/ or should I buy that" ? threads.............that said I will try to help

Does the 95 have a 22RE or 3.0LV6?....the 3.0L is probably the least desireable engine toyota made according to many. I owned one with no major issues but they are know for HG failures....sold mine with 267 after 140k of no problems....kinda lacking in power, easy to work on. If it has the 22RE you have a gem and a very long lasting engine if taken care of, again easy to work on and the last forever....there are MANY wrtie up on this site and the internet about all this info.

The 99' sr5?/limited? will have the 3.4L V6 which is the egine in my '97 and my daily driver. WORKHORSE engine....maintinace is pretty easy and parts are easy to find. TONS of info on upgrades, repairs ect on this board. Also search 2ndgen buyers guide and google 3rd gen buyers guide...you will find write ups from 4-Ripcord from this site....absolute 4Runner buying info gold....good luck

PS....the '99 is definately worth the extra grand IMHO....check that timing belts have been replaced recently or count on spending a day or coming outta pocket $700 for a shop and definately read up on the pink milkshake if the 99 is an auto,,,not sure if the 2nd gens had that issue.....READ THE BUYERS GUIDES..again good luck

Thanks for the reply , I looked though the site quite a bit, they both fell though for now, the 95 was junk, the 99 is pretty nice, body is kinda rough, lots of dings and really could use a new front fender, the only thing I could find really wrong with it is lots of surface rust underneath, I don't know how big a problem that would turn into. Looked at one more that was really solid, but they are asking $4500, and both would need a timing belt, witch I think I can handle. Once again, thanks for the reply, hopefully I find a decent one.
