Which Redline Oil to use for Diffs and Transmission

Gonna change all my fluid for my truck for my own birthday present. Just wondering which fluids would be best. I have a manual transmission with the 3.4 V6 so i was just gonna use the MT 75w90 for all of them but wasnt too sure which one you all would recommend.

for the 5spd mt90 is best the rest 75w90 is great

I believe API GL5 is specified by Toyota for your gearboxes and diffs. Redline 75W90 GL5 will work in everything.

However...

Your transmission is rated GL4 or GL5 and some have found the tranny shifts better with a GL4 lube. For that application use Redline MT90 75W90 GL4-

Do NOT put GL4 in your differentials.

To muddy the waters a bit, Redline 75W90 NS GL5 is supposed to work great in the diffs _and_ tranny-

If you want to go with a single lube in everything, I'd try the 75W90 NS GL5.

for the auto tranny, use High Temp ATF or the D4 ATF.

For the transfer case and differentials, use the 75W90 GL-5 or the 75W140 GL-5

Put me down for redline lightweight shockproof in both diffs, transfer case and the manual trans in my other vehicles. Auto trans got redline in the beginning and now usually gets Castrol.

Yeah, the more I look at the costs, the more I'm liking Mobil1 synthetics instead...:wow2:

Red Line is a bit more expensive than Mobil Oil. But Red Line uses Polyol Esters as basestock whereas Mobil uses the cheaper Poly AlphaOlefin.

I'm actually looking into the fluids for my Nissan pickup right now since it needs it more than the 4Runner, but either way, I'm suffering a bit of sticker shock...if I go all Red Line for the Nissan, to do M/T, transfer, front and rear diffs, I'd be looking at $200 of fluids...if I did Red Line for the M/T and transfer and Mobil1 for the diffs, I'd be looking at around $180...:wow2: Sucks because I really need to get it done on this truck ASAP, since I have no idea when it was done last (just bought it, it's an '88), but I can't drop that kind of $$$ that fast right now.

understand your case fully. nothing wrong with going mobil 1, in fact, I have used mobil delvac1 before for the engine on my truck. just saying that red line oil is better.

It should be less than $100 to do the diffs, trans and transfer case in a 5 speed. I paid $10-$11 a quart for Mobil1.

Sorry for the redundant question but what do I need and where is best to buy? I have Autozone, Checker, Napa and Pepboys in Phoenix. Willing to to synthetic on everything but the rear diff so I don't get the leak. 1998 4x4 5speed w/ locker. What is best for my truck?

don't forget to get the proper oem factory Toyota crush washers (one-time use gaskets) for each drain and fill plug:

front diff - crush washers (x2) = 90430-24003
rear diff - crush washers (x2) = 12157-10010
transfer case - crush washers (x2) = 90430-18008

I don't have the Toyota part number handy for the small blue oil filter crush washer...

I thought so too, but given the amount of fluid my Nissan requires (or, at least what the specs show as the "fluid capacity" for each component), it will most definitely cost more than $100. As for the T4R, no idea...

Also, someone mentioned not using synthetic in the rear diff...what's the story with that?

On mine, the front diff fill gasket is different:12157-10010, same as both on the rear diff.

Amazon and summitracing.com are good sources for Redline. Both have MT-90 for $14.85/quart, so shipping makes the difference. Around here, the retailers that have Redline don't seem to know what a manual transmission is.

I'm bout to order fluids to change everything in my truck. I know it would work with the diffs and transmission but would the 75W90 NS GL-5 work well with the transfer case? Emphasis on the NS part.
