Which tires?

They are heavy due to the beefed up construction of them with Kevlar sidewall, do you really think that 40 lb's overall is going to make a difference ?, it is a aggressive tire, hence the ride, again, no OTHER production tire is as strong as the toyo m/t.

40lbs overall won't make much of a difference, but 10lbs per tire will. Adding weight to the tires will have a much different effect than adding weight to the vehicle itself.

um i think you have the tire confused with some other tire, ie the goodyear MTR, the Toyos do not have a kevlar in them. they are designed for larger trucks like full-sized diesels ect. they are way overkill on our trucks... and really no other production tire is as strong as the Toyo MT!?! are you crazy? ill take the goodyear MTR hands down all day long any day on any truck. -also if you are looking for the strongest tire available id look at the BFG Baja TA... -the tires that Toyo uses in the Baja 1000 are not for commercial sale at any dealer, and are not DOT approved -same with the Nitto trail grappler KOH(the tire that has been eating up the King Of the Hammers for the past year). they are close and look similar but the design and build of the tires is much different.

if i had a big diesel truck id seriously consider running the Toyo MTs, but on anything less its out of the question. at 40-60lbs heavier(at the wheels) that will make a huge difference in performance, as far as MPGs, acceleration and braking. and lets not mention the weight 10-15 extra lbs of that spare in your swing out bumper(think of the added stress on the spindle) or heck even lifting that tire up to get on the hub... i am running E-rated Nittos at 54lbs, you compare that to the Toyos at over 70lbs... thats just the freaking tire!

im not trying to say they are a bad tire, cause they are not, but they are a bad tire choice for our small underpowered rigs... now if all that added weight was because they had much deeper/larger tread lugs then i might say well its worth it, as you would get longer wear out of them and the lugs would bite more than other tires, but thats not the case. the compound is just a lot harder so yes you will get longer life out of them via that, but you will gain that longer life at the sacrifice of performance and traction(hard to believe you say because of the aggressive looks of the tire -but trust me its science). the tires have a hard compound because they are designed for larger trucks that weigh 6000+lbs empty.

x2 on Toyo M/Ts, great tire! But they are heavy. Keep in mind that if it is harder to get it moving, it will also be harder to stop. This would work good for trails because you will be able to keep your momentum going. Some of the 4 banger Yota guys swear by using a heavier flywheel or crank pulley, same idea. The V6 should provide plenty of drive train momentum thou, so it shouldn't be a problem, even with the 2.7L.

I am currently running 265/75R16 Toyo M/Ts. I will be switching to a 315/75R16 BFG KM2 partially for size difference and because being a D load range it will be easier to squish when airing down.

There is a reason every **** head with a 4x4 and 22" is rolling coal in a 9000lbs truck has Toyo M/Ts. They are a great tire but there are other tires out there that offer better performance for what you are looking for.

I'd be interested in some opinions on the Bfg KM2s in size 285/75/16 I believe they only come in e rated and are 59lbs a tire. I think they will be my next tire unless someone can convince me otherwise. Right now I'm running 265/75/16 maxxis bighorns.

Oh no, it's funny Hepar. Because he is still so sure about him self, so no one needs to make an ass out of him, he does it all by himself. Flip a bike upsize down. Spin the tire by hand. Then lift a vehicle and spin the tire. Notice a difference?

And could you be talking about (gasp) the term "rolling resistance"?
 
if you dont care about mpgs and or power loss then the toyos would be an ok tire. i just think that for the price there are better tires that provide just as good if not better performance for our trucks. i have nothing against the tires other than their weight

but as stated i think the dura-trac for a more hwy drivin truck... but if you are looking for a great off road tire id go with the nitto or the MTR

yea im not really worried about mpgs or anything really but dont want to spend the money on the toyos ill prolly just get the nitto mtrs.
