White vapor at start up with cylinder cutting in and out for the first 5-10 sec of a

This is to document my journey which will probably include head gaskets.

I noticed the ruff start a little while ago. When I stick my face in the water vapor it doesn't smell like antifreeze.

I may buy a borescope for my iPhone or the stand alone ones at the auto parts stores and pull the plugs and look for gas or antifreeze collecting on a piston.

Looks like you are getting some water into the combustion chambers, but probably not a full blown head gasket. You could always try one of those cooling system pellet fixes. My buddies 97 was doing this about two years ago, he popped those in and hasnt had any trouble since.

That's normal for an older car/truck. Cold start is rich, no sensor input below 160f.

I must figure out which cylinder is misfiring at startup.

I would perform a leak down test and go from there.

I just fired it up after the new rad cap and thought I heard spark tick during the missfire. Sadly I was at the wrong end of the Toy. I may drive it to work this evening and go out after dark and fire it up and look for spark jumping.

My rad now makes pressure with the new cap.

It's a bad head gasket. It had water vapor much longer this time with the cap that holds pressure. And it smelled like antifreeze to.

Well that bites. Didn’t you just finish up a HG replacement or was that on another 4Runner?
