Who has a 3d printer

Who has a 3D printer and wants to work with me over the next few months? I want to make a front mud flap for my 4 runner with my limited flares so I can get sliders and still have front mudflaps! Please PM me so we can talk!! If you are close to VA or in Va the would be sweet

Why would you want to 3d Print that? I don't know if 3D Printers actually print flexible enough polymer for that application.

You'd be better off buying high quality flexible polymer and/or rubber and making your own.

Well I was thinking that a ABS plastic would be fine. I would not want it long like the current 3rd gen rear flaps are. I care more about making the Flare look complete. I know zero information on 3d printing and talking with someone who does it well and is here on the forum can give me some insight on the different types of rubber/plastics they can use in their system.

Oh yeah no doubt but I would love to give someone here on the forum the opportunity to earn my money before some random person.
 
prototyping is an expensive and time consuming process, and i cant imagine how much someone would charge for something like this.

I suggest you make your part by hand. a 3d printer will only help you if you have access to and can use cad, and you have a lot of time. when you have a hammer everything looks like a nail.

I was going to get some foam and make the shape I wanted. Wasn't sure of where to go from there. I know some printers can scan an items. Just wanted some feasibility.
 
I would not recommend a printed part for actual use. They are usually quite brittle and non-flexible, have a rough surface finish and appearance, not UV stable and as others have mentioned, expensive. Equipment capable of scanning objects to produce a cad file are also top dollar.
I think your plan to make one out of foam is the best approach. Use the foam model to create a custom mold and then cast one out of a rubber material. There are plenty of online references and site for diy casting and mold making.
 
I've been 3D printing for a little over 2 years now. As others have said, using a 3D printed ABS part for something of that size and function wouldn't be the best route. There is a rubbery 3D printing material called NinjaFlex that would be better suited for something like a mud flap, but the surface finish isn't great.

The best way to approach this may be to have a master positive printed in ABS or PLA. Then you can seal/paint/sand the positive to get the desired surface finish and create a mold.
 
i have a $20,000 uPrint SE Plus down stairs and i still wouldn't recommend using it for this application.

i mean it would work but probably not worth the effort involved, you're really going to want a different material for what you are trying to do.

beyond that, the material we use is fairly expensive The spools are $205 and contain 42 in3 of plastic, so if you figure in your time in R&D and cost of running the printer all for something that ends up being temporary/sub par isn't really worth it.

ABSplus is fine for indoor uses but definitely not something that I'd put out the out side of my truck in all temps and conditions and expect it to last..
 
Not that many will care but I found a link in another post to speedysgarage and found a set of mudguards that will work. They are the Highland Contura P/N 11051, a little modification is needed but they will work. Thanks for the help and suggestions everyone!
