Who thinks Metal Tech should make tube doors/half doors

So i have been wanting some tube doors/half doors for quite sometime now and i cannot find a company to make some. I have emailed companies about the idea but no one will pull the trigger. Metal Tech makes them for FJs so it couldnt be too much more complicated for the 4th gens. So maybe some interest on this thread can give [MENTION=80984]LT[/MENTION] some inspiration to give it a whirl. WHOS WITH ME!

We tried on my silver 4runner.

The problem is the wiring. It does not pull back out of the way unless you remove your inner door skin (pain in the back). and when you remove the drivers door, for some reason all the windows stop working.

there were a few other issues that made us decide that if were were ever going to make tube doors for the 4th gen, it would have to be when people are ready to dedicate them to the trail (i think we are too far off for that right now)

That's very odd you would think that they wouldn't be far off from the fj (wiring ) since they are both new versions I would have thought you could have made an adapter for the wires and the only bad part would be actually getting your stock doors on and off because of weight.

Aside from wiring and technical aspects I feel like you could only do the front doors and not the rears as part of the fender is on the door and it wouldn't look right without it. I only say this because if I were ever to go to tube doors I would want them on all 4 doors

Yeah I wouldn't do the back doors because everytine I see a jeep going down the road with all the doors off or all tube doors it doesn't look good to me, the front two off would be perfect. It's apparently a little more complicated than I expected

I have been wanting to go no doors for so long but all these tales of people having problems with it kinda scares me away. Theres a guy on instagram i follow who took his off and had no problems with them though.

Well... what you could do I suppose is cut out the hole for the door wiring harness, recess it and install a mil-spec jumbo connector like they do on jets, race cars, and such. Then have the harness simply lock into the jumbo connector. The issue would still remain of reinforcing the hinges for the duty of removal and re installation without upsetting the balance, fit, and finish of the original doors. As for the rear doors, you could probably just make a sheet metal fender section to match it.

In my opinion its far too much work and not a lot of gain, the 4th gen has a nice interior and all that dust and grime will fill all the little nooks and cranies on our rigs so fast it'd drive me nuts. I'm one of those people that pulls the trim panels and surrounds when I clean the car to get all the seeped through soda, dirt, and crap. Lol
