Why did the 4th Gen lose the second 12V power outlet in the front

It seems that Toyota sometimes takes a few steps forward and then one back every now and then.

My 3rd Gen had two 12V power outlets in front. I would like to be able to charge my phone and use my satelite radio. Maybe the 08's will have a second outlet up front as there is certainly room for it in that elongated useless compartment up front next to the existing power outlet.

This is not the first time where options existed in previous generations and then were subsequently lost in future generations.

You can add the cigarette lighter where the 1st powerpoint is and get a second one up front.

I agree with you on Toyota sometimes going backwards. The 3rd gen also had an auto passenger's side window that the 4th gen does not.

My 03 has two 12v up front and one in the rear I'm pretty sure this was a factory option as well.

4th gen gained an optional 115 volt outlet in the console. This does not substitute for an additional 12 volt though. If the satellite radio is plugged into the outlet up front, it is inconvenient to pull over and plug the cell phone in to the outlet in the trunk! :
