Im confused, the air bag sensor is an inertia sensor not an impact sensor, deceleration from 45mph should have activated the bags regardless of bumpers and crumple zones.....why didnt they go off?

I honestly couldn't tell you why, I think it had more to do with the fact that I was able to keep moving forward because I pretty much lifted and threw the car sideways.

It just depends how quickly the truck slowed down. I bet he pushed that car pretty far and the side of their car acted like a crumple zone in a way. I am definitely not surprised that the airbags did not go off. If he had hit a truck, wall etc... at that speed I am sure they would have.

I'm pretty sure the airbag sensors are mounted to the frame. Also the shrockworks bolts to the frame. The frame maintains the same crumple zones. the plastic bumper that is removed isn't a bumper at all, it's just a plastic cap. The actual bumper is a small sheet metal beam that is removed from the truck to install the shrockworks.

did your sport come with the backup sensors? i have the same ride, and didn't even have that option?

They were port installed, not from factory.

2nd point- Lets say you hit black ice in texas(who knows)... and you hit a barrier head on or a pole or a tree or whatever, you get no impact dissipation and absorption from your bumper and your airbags may not deploy, you get the TBI... I think there should be a disclaimer about these sorts of upgrades.

airbags dont really have much to do with the "bumper"

They probably didn't go off because the truck did it's job and protected the occupant. That's why they have crumple zones and bumpers. Airbags are a "Supplemental" Restraint System. The last thing you want to happen is an airbag go off. They are usually built to deploy if that is the only thing that is going to save your life. Trust me, you don't want them going off unless you abso****inglutley need them to save you.

If you can walk away from a wreck, you usually didn't need an airbag.

The Schrockworks bumper is definitely worth the price! Not sure if you discussed it in a previous post but are you replacing it with a new S/W bumper? Any pics of the repaired front end? Glad to hear you walked away from it ok! :bigok:

I second this. I would love to see what the front looks like now! (although your back pic convinced me to go plasti-dip my emblems, so thanks!)
