Wife gave me a 5th gen

I've been looking for a used 06+ 4th Gen or early 5th Gen. Resale prices were a little crazy. Had trouble finding what I wanted. The few that did pop up were sold immediately or owners that would not reply (Craigslist, Autotrader). Amazing how many owners had no interest in selling their vehicles despite being for sale.

Wife worked with our previous salesperson. My new 2018 ORP has Kdss and no sunroof. It was the only combo like that for sale in the region. Took wife and the salesperson a month to find this one. Had to goto dealer for a new license plate frame for wife's 4runner. That's when I found out I get my own.

I never understand how a spouse can make a surprise purchase of this size. Always have the same thought at those Mercedes commercials with the big bows on cars.

Do you have a giant disposable income? How is a purchase like this made without you being aware?

I agree with you. But in this case, the fact that his wife knew exactly what model and options he wanted leads me to believe they've discussed possibly getting this previously at some point.

Well, talking about something you want and then signing the papers is a whole lot of different !

I wanted a fishing boat , made a deposit and all and when I talked to my wife to sign the papers she went BERSERK ! lol that's just me but its not like buying a new TV, heck or something it's a BRAND NEW CAR ! .... that's from the Price is right with my old fellow Bob Barker

Maybe she is the bread winner in the family? Really the only scenario that I can think of when it comes to buying a new car for the significant other in the relationship. I don’t think the disposable income comes into play here since we are not talking about a Land Cruiser.

I bought mine without the wife knowing about it til it came home. But I have an understanding wife also. Bought quite a few cars without her knowing. She was always cool with it.

When looking at used I had made a remark on how perfect her 4runner was. I would have been fine with no Kdss. Finding a used Trail with under 100k miles was not an easy task. Those that came up were $900 Carmax transfer fee usually with high mileage.

Having Kdss and no sunroof was icing on the cake. We were already on agreement on a used vehicle. New wasn't alot more. I found used with 40k miles the same price and occasionally more than buying new.


I was happy to buy used. So weird how many people refused to communicate.

That was my main issue when looking. The used ones were only a few thousand cheaper than new. Decided to just spend that extra amount and be worry free of someone flooding the rear or burning up the 4WD system.

This is exactly what I have found so I just bought new 2018 ORP. My neighbor is a car dealer and when he did a search on his Manheim Auction App (Dealer only auction) average price for a 2017 with appox. 8K miles was $36,400. I purchased new 2018 ORP w/ sunroof no KDSS for $35,355 before TTT so I didn't make sense to buy used.

I got my 2015 TEP while I was on a business trip to CO. It was not until after I got home I found out that without sun roof I did not get home link. $300 mistake on my part. BUT i did call Toyota and give them an ear full...lol why would any trim level come without home link? Its been on my last 20 vehicles.
