will a grille guard from a 02' fit a 97'?

i found one i e-bay, but it says its for a 99-2002 but i dont see why it wouldnt fit a 97'...

it will fit. ive seen ppl with it on their 96-98 4runners

No, they are different. The 99-02 one is designed to fit around the Jay leno front bumper

No, 96-98 is different than 99-02. Two different part #'s. This is all due to the fat lip bumper that was added in 99.

Yep, Jasons right. They won't be interchangable between 96-98 and 99-02 because of the change in bumper.

well i guess it would fit but it would stick out way to much in the front and look kind of goofy, that is if it even fit.

lol wow i just read this thread and i gotta be honest, i miss read the whole thing. i thought he was asking if a grill from a 99-02 would fit a 96-98. i completely over looked the sentence. i did not notice the "grill" part of the sentence. Jason b was right it wouldn't fit due the bumper. so now i leave you guys to poke fun at me :bash:

hey similar problem here, i have a 98 and found a guy selling the one from 99-02.. if its just a matter of gap between the bumper it should still technically fit right? or did they change the bolt pattern for this reason?

i could see why a 01 wouldnt fit a brush guard from a 98 but it should work the other way around, no?

sorry to bump such an old thread, just need to know an answer asap.

But the BUMPERS are interchangable right? Not a grill guard, but the actual bumpers. You can bolt the newer fat lip bumper onto a 98 runner right? Cause Im looking to get the newer style bumper on my 98.

The fat lip bumper for 99-02 changes the guard.

Can't you just remove the lower valance and just leave the upper metal part???
