Will this setup work?

Hello people. SO, I have a 97 2wd 4runner and I'm looking to lift it (for about 50/50 on road and off road). I ultimately would like to turn it into a very mild prerunner, so I'm starting with suspension. This is what I'm looking to get:

Front : Bilstein 5100's Tacoma Adjustable + Stock Springs

Rear : Bilstein 5100's + Either OME 891's or Toytec Superflex (I'm not sure which is better.. suggestions?)

Is this all I need? I'm looking to get about 2-2.5 (MAAAYBE 3) inches of lift. Will this setup work? I want to run some 265/75R16 General Grabber AT2 tires btw.

Probably get more a response in the 3rd Gen forum, but yeah I think it should work. The super flex springs are going to be way taller than 2" though.

Thanks for your response. I'm kinda new here, so sorry about the bad forum placement... anyway. do you think the OME 890's or 891's would be a better/lower option?

Toytec lists the superflex as lifting 3.75"+ at stock weight the 890s say around 3". Based on what you say you are planning to do and your desired outcome I would say the 890s are the best choice as the three. But that's only my opinion.

I would also say the 890 rear coils, unless you have a constant load in the rear. I would also suggest running the 881 coils and a 10mm Enhancer kit up front for better ride and performance on the bilsteins than just pre-loading the stock coils.

alright, looks like 890's are the winner for the rear. I don't really have the budget for new front coils right now, but I will definitely keep those 881's in mind. Also, what's an enhancer kit? Are they just like smaller, steel spacers?
And will I need new bump stops? and are OME 2890 springs the same thing as 890's? (Sorry for so many questions). Thanks! :biggrin1:

Ive considered doing the same because I love the way my current rig handles. I didnt read all the other posters advice, so forgive me if Im repeating.
I would stay away from the 5100's, unless you are running OEM springs. The 5100's are perfectly valved for the stock OEM coil spring rates.
With that being said, you have a ton of options. First, you should go up in spring rate for handling the bigger tires, fast roads, deep holes and unexpected whoops. The rear OEM coils are terribly under sprung for all the rear weight. Im hearing the new Bilstein 6100's address the issue of valving with the heavier coils and may not be a bad way to go. But, if funds allow, I would look at Camburg. Oh and bring a napkin when you do because you will be drooling over their long travel stuff... Also, look at FOX or the Icon, or King rebuildable shocks. So again, there are a ton of options available. In my case, I wasnt expecting to keep my truck this long, but i fell in love with it. If I would have thought I was going to keep it, I would have done the Long travel FOX's or the Icons or something else instead of my Bilsteins. Dont get me wrong, they work ok. The valving is way off with the springs im using, and handling is not where I want it, but its still way better than stock. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have looked at the shocks you mentioned, however, most of them are long travel and not at all in my current budget. Someday, I hope to get long travel suspension, but as of right now I just need something that will allow me to "prerun" (just lightly not like 60+ mph and 20 ft of air type stuff haha. just ~30-maybe 40mph with very little air). Will the 5100's work well for that? As of right now, I can't afford new front coils, however, are there any you can suggest/recommend?

The SuperFlex coils do give you a bit of a higher lift, but if you load constantly, have a heavy backbumper or offroad at expedition weight, they are great. If not, and you ride at OEM weight, you are looking at a higher tail end.
