I see part of your problem now aquanut. I believe Jeff614 had the same concern when he got his. Warn makes a steel hawse style fairlead that is for use with steel cable or synthetic rope. It won't have as high a profile from the plate. They have listings on Amazon and Ebay, but I can't provide links to those. My work internet has them blocked.

Hidden Winch Mount In The Works

A couple weeks ago I sent an email to Budbuilt about the possibility of a hidden winch mount for the 2014. Paula was great and got back to me right away saying they had something in the works, but we're still a couple months out. Not sure what the pricing will be, but their other 5th gen mount is $350.
