Window Moulding Removal?

Hey everybody. I'm trying to figure out how exactly to remove the winshield side moulding without breaking it. It seems to pull out fine from under the roof rack mounts, but once I get to the windshield, it feels like it is in there solid.
According to the repair manual, you should be able to just pull it out by hand. Anyone else done this? I just want to make sure before I snap it in two, or break something else in the process.
The reason I want to remove it is I'm trying to run GPS & XM antennas up to there and need to run the wiring through this channel. I wish I could take the credit for this idea, but I remember seeing another member do this some time ago. I don't think he mentioned how he removed the moulding though...



The moulding in question is marked in red (I want to remove the other side but it should be the same). Any help would be appreciated!

I don't think Yu can simply pull the molding out. They likely to be glued in with sealent. The sealent is what's actually holding the window in place.

Well, you are correct about the upper moulding, and there is an adhesive dam that goes around the window opening, but the side mouldings simply seem to snap in place. What the hell, I'm gonna try it. Here I've included the removal & installation of the moulding pieces...

I know this is an old thread but I am in need of replacing the left and right side windshield moldings on my 08 limited. This seems to be the best thread I found about how to do this however it ended without really saying if the molding just snaps in / out. From the 08 part diagram it appears to be the same as what's shown here.

Does anyone know if it's as simple as just pulling the molding out by hand and then snapping the new molding back in place?

Is there any adhesive involved?

Also, I have a roof rack, do I need to remove the front part so the molding can be placed under it or can this be done without removing that?

The answer to the above question is: yes, and it's super easy. First pop off the roof rack cover with trim removal tool, and loosen the two bolts holding the rack down. The adhesive of my molding was completely gone, so the old molding strip pulled right out. Before you remove the adhesive tape top layer, shove the new molding under the rack mount (gently) and make note of the distance you'll have to push it until it fits. Then, after eyeballing the depth, insert the new one, adhesive tape removed, quickly, before th etape begins to stick, and snap the remaining length of molding into the groove along the side of the windshield, making sure you have enough length to tuck it under the piece of molding at the bottom corner of the windshield. Tighten the bolts of the rack and replace the cover and you're done. Just don't be impatient like I was and break the cover at the corner.

Replace Windshield Moulding

5054Runner, I have to do the same job on my 07 4Runner Ltd. The windshield moulding on my passenger side came loose and was flapping while driving down I95. I stopped and pressed it back in best I could but I was not able to press it back to where it should be. I noticed that there was dirt and debris under the moulding next to the windshield. When you installed yours, were you able to fully press it in?

I'm thinkin I'll clean out the channel where it goes and apply some type of adhesive, maybe 3M 4200, and then press it in.

Thoughts?
