Windshield

I have an '04 SR5 V8. I started a thread a while back regarding my windshield wiper blades skipping or chattering across the windshield. I've noticed that there are sections of my windshield that the blades don't hit when it rains. These sections seem to not be affected by water, if that makes any sense. It's as if these sections sit lower than the rest of the windshield. Could this be considered road grime? So far, I've replaced the wiper blades and arms; nothing has worked. The skipping or chattering is still there. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm guessing a cheap replacement windshield is your issue. An OEM replacement should fix that.

It's funny you should mention that. I did have to have the windshield replaced about 2 years ago.

A blemish is a good way to describe it. Do your wipers skip across the windshield?

Yes 2 different areas ! One right in middle of my vision drivers side & 2 spots on pass.

Thanks ... Mine are about in the same area. Curious, did you have your windshield replaced? I've gotten to the point where I don't want to drive my truck if it's going to rain ... that's how much this bothers me.

Yes both replaced & I found that rain-x really helps ! Sort of fills in . Try not to use them . I found if raining that's only time they clean well . It's the piddly stuff pisses me off when I just use them .

I'll give Rain-X a try; at this point I have nothing to lose. The only other option I seem to have is replacing the windshield with an OEM.

Yeah I know ... guess I'm just frustrated. Thank you for you suggestions. I'll give Rain-X a try.

You can polish the windshield. Autogeek and Eastwood both have a glass polish. If you have a good buffer you can use regular car wax/polish. I have removed/reduced scratches from broken wipers. When I buff and wax I always run over the glass. RainX is also a great product. Eliminates the need for wipers at highway speeds in a misty rain. In the downpours we get here during thunderstorms it helps too.

I've had this issue with the OEM windshield and the current aftermarket one.

I have noticed that if the blades sit in the same position for a while, the chattering happens. I've pushed them down and let go so the actual end of the blade flips back as if to start the sweeping upward stroke, basically reversing the resting position. Seem to help.
