Wireless Remote Programming

So, I am trying to program a new remote and I have gone through the procedure listed inthe FSM about 20 times. I cannot get the car to respond at the end of the programing with the lock/unlock confirmation (i.e respond that it is ready to receive the remote signal).

I have tried to go slower and faster with the lock/unlock cycle and every other iteration I can think of. Just as a check of the system I ran through the "buzzer sound level" programming to see if I could get it to work - it did.

Can the remote programming be "locked out" - anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

Do you have the stock alarm? Or is it aftermarket? If it's the RS3000 VIP system from Toyota, I think the procedure involves pressing and holding the reset button on the ECU, located under the driver's seat. If that's what you have, let me know and I can post the procedure as listed in the RS3000 manual.

I am having the same problem as well but not sure how to do the buzzer sound level programming either. How do i find out if I have a VIP alarm on mine? (Sorry not trying to hijack your thread ultimatt)

Have the "factory" alarm for 2000 4Runner Limited. Factory window sticker lists it as " Anti-Theft Sytem and Immobilizer" also lists "Keyless Entry" on the sticker.

The remote is number HYQ1512Y and it has the Toyota symbol on the back and lock/unlock/window down/ and a panic buttons.

Here is a website with the RS3000 manual. Look under Programming and Adjustments > Remote control programming. The ECU should be located under your drivers seat if it's the stock alarm. You should be fine if you follow the directions. I haven't done it yet because I don't have a fob as of now. Best of luck.

OK, so let me get this straight, all 4 runners have keyless entry correct as far as lock and unlock and roll down the rear window? and the VIP alarm is a factory option correct? Im asking because my I just got my 99 SR5 4runner about 2 weeks ago and it only came with 1 key and no remotes and about everyone else i know with a 4runner has the keyless entry on it...making sure mine does to before I order the remotes....

I do not know if they were standard or not. If you have a security system there should be a light/indicator somewhere on your dash I think. I believe it's to the left of the steering wheel on the 99's. But I may be wrong. I have a 98 and it's located next to the parking brake. If you go to your local dealership, they will tell you if you have it or not.

Ok, well i just tried the other way to get into programing mode (thread on here) and it went finally (didn't the first 30 times I tried the other day lol) and I do have a spot where a security light was next to my steering wheel but no light there.

Are you following this procedure? I just used this for my factory remotes and it worked fine.

you could always call the parts or service department at your local dealer. If you explain your problem and their half good they should be able to explain it over the phone.
