WIth/Without Lightbar?

I'm debating putting the mini lightbar back on the 4R- my girlfriend, who used to like it, is now strongly against it. She likes that my lights are pretty "stealth" in the current setup. The lightbar is a little more obvious.

I think I want it back up there . . . . what do you guys think?

i like it without more. the stealth look is what ill be going for and do you really want to grab that much attention when youre not on duty? you've got enough lights to warrant removing the bar.

stealth. you've gone through enough trouble trying to get it to look stealth (looks great btw) don't put that on top... plus, you're not supposed to have more lights that the truck

I know you could not get away with that in VA, but I suppose your state laws are different. Volunteer firefighters can have blue lights in Pennsylvania and New York, but they have to use red or red & clear lights here in VA.

Anyway, it still looks cool with the light bar on top - but even better without it. Apparently, you have other strobe lights anyway, so ditch the bar.

Okay, that is what I thought. Not too good of an idea to have firefighters and cops using the same lighting.

But do you have the blue light - or red lights in there as well? What do the cops use in CT? I always thought your state troopers had a red/blue combination light bar.

Our law enforcement officers in VA are the only ones who can use blue lights - although they can also use blue & red or blue & clear lights on the cruisers. The key is that there is at least some blue lighting on a squad car.

Many of our fire & EMS cars resemble police cars, but will have red or red & white lighting on them. Same for volunteers in their private cars.

Do you have to remove or cover your lights when going outside your state? I know that cops use blue lights in Massachusetts and might take umbrage if you drove through their with your blue light bar in plain sight.

Interesting, Karl -- in Arkansas, it seems that blue is for law enforcement, red for fire fighters, and mixed red/blue for ambulances.

And it is good that the girlfriend will be happy.

Blue only for firefighters, although chiefs can had red/white.

There is a bit more to this though- I have strobes in the brake lights, so they are red obviously. This is okay since it is only towards the rear.

Technically amber requires a permit as well but this is not enforeced. I always have one amber facing forward and one to the back because it is the brightest of all the colors and can be seen from farther away . . . i.e. safer.

Police in CT use a combination of blue and red, as do most fire apparatus.

Since my lights are either hidden or clear when they are off, I don't have to worry about it in any state. I have friends who have blue dashlights, sitting on their dash, off of course, that have been ticketed in MA just because the trooper was having a bad day. (Fire uses red in MA). I even know a friend from NY who was in CT, with a blue light on the dash, also not "on," who was hassled in CT, even though we share the same laws.

Most officers understand it can be a hassle to cover or remove lights just to cross state lines, especially if you live on the border, so most cops don't hassle you. NY actually has a law that says lights on vehicles from out of state don't have to be removed as long as they are not "on."

Stick with some LED lights mounted inside the windshield and rear hatch. Stay away from making your truck obvious to the public when not on duty.

i'm more of an all or none guy. if you are going to put one on, put a big ass one one. with a chrome spot light by your driver side rearview mirror as well. that would be bad ass.

Yeah, the nays have it. No light bar. I guess this means the roof will be ready for a off-road rack, hella lights, spare tire mount, hi lift mount, etc. I don't think the girlfriend will like that one any more
