Worst luck

Went off roading at Wharton state forest. Had an awesome day. Truck was great. As soon as I left. It started to make a weird knock / tic noise only in 3rd gear.

Long story short. Probably blew 3rd gear.

Probably gonna end up getting a used transmission.

This makes Two of us... I am in the market for a Transmission poor thing just starting to retire on me. I started getting shift solenoid code... I replaced them this weekend still having issues... Sourcing a used trans has been interesting :confused:

No. I had the swap done about 2 years ago. The donor truck had about 250k on it. So who knew how the transmission was used prior to me. But maybe I'll take a video tomorrow to show you guys how BAD IT SOUNDS IN 3rd gear.

Could I tear it up and rebuild? Probably yes. But honestly I feel like it will be less time and almost cheaper to get a used r150f.

You do have poor luck! Put another one in there. You have done all the hard work already and the 5speed is known as a very sturdy transmission. There seems to be a few in your area because the body and frames rust out long before the transmissions go

Ah missed the 5 speed manual part .... that does suck

Where are you offroading? Meaning where are you entering? Thought the SP and rangers where cracking down on offroading out there. Would love to hit Wharton instead of going all the way to Rausch.

Sorry to hear about the tranny. Get that fixed up quick!
 
Damn man that does suck. I had so many manual trans issues in my previous cars. Auto all the way now. Cant wait to get that racing 5 speed out of my talon.

[MENTION=124742]St Runner[/MENTION] I looked around on car-parts.com and there are a lot available. Some with lower miles are 3-4 hour drive. But that is still not bad.
[MENTION=107674]JRZEE2000TR4LTD[/MENTION] I enter at Atsion or Batsto office. Wharton has 2 offices. First time I went there. I went to Atsion office. And asked the guy upfront if we are allowed to off road and if so how does it work. So they explain it to you. Gave me a map, highlighted some legal trails. And basically any trail that is not POSTED, or says by WHARTON STATE FOREST that you are not allowed. Then you are not allowed on it. But a lot of trails are legal. Just don't do or get busted by doing ruts and going really fast.

Also, my first time there, the park ranger took us out for a tour that day. And showed me some of the trails that were prohibited.

Once I get new transmission we can set something up.

Buy a used one and see if you can negotiate with the salvage yard to take the core charge off then keep your old one and rebuild it. I did that with my jeep when I lost 2nd, 3rd, and 5th gear(really fun weekend). Bought a used one and slapped it in, then rebuilt my old one so now I have a spare.

Yes that's I was thinking also.
 
maybe someone with more experience can confirm this.

Will any year 4runner r150f be the same as a 97?
Will any tacoma r150f be the same, the ones that bolt to 5vzfe.

Trying to open my search more wider. So if anything i dont have to drive so far to pick up a transmission
 
Id prefer a 100k or less transmission.

Found one in NY, 104 mile drive. From a 1997 with 108k for $500 or found another one. 1996 Tacoma 81k for $450. This is in Maryland about 171mile drive.
 
To my knowledge they are the same from people I know who have done this. I don't think anything changed till closer to 2002 era but I could be wrong.
