Would finding a second hand rear axel from an FJ be the cheapest way to lock the rear

i thought i read something about putting a front locker in our cars? something about it not helping too much and possible failure? or did i read that wrong, i don't remember where i read it.

There's definitely a higher chance of breaking a cv axle when you're locked in the front, but from what I've heard is that the arb carrier actually helps strengthen the front end in open situations so you're less likely to break something internally. Hard to say.

Yep...the CV Axles are the weak link if you lock the front. Hence my concern too, but those are easy to remove/replace and/or fix on a trail. A diff isn't.

ah so thats what it was, well in that case youre right, that cost wouldn't be as bad as the diff itself, i was planning on going only rear when i changed gears, but might as well do it all if they're all out, pay once right lol.

Pretty much. I waited almost a week before deciding to have the front locker added on. I got lucky and they were literally working on the front gears with everything still apart so I just had them add it on.

You and [MENTION=140978]Velas[/MENTION] are killing me! HAHA!! Guess I'll be locking the front as well. But still undecided on gear ratio. 4.56? 4.88? Have time to think about it. Not doing it till early next year.
