Looking at a local truck i may purchase and wanted to gather some input.

Headed to check it out this Friday, guys owned it a year and wanting to get a land cruiser. As far as i know so far no known issues and clean carfax.

Looks pretty clean, I think this is a fair deal. Things to check for are primarily rust and the pink milkshake that 3rd gens are notorious for (google if you're not familiar). Look at tranny fluid/radiator to see if it's been replaced (telltale sign of either preventative maintenance or after the fact maintenance). Hopefully since it is in Texas you won't have rust issues, but Carfax should tell you where it's prior life has been spent.

Body looks to be in great shape, good paint, interior is clean and with a good deep detail would like look real nice. If you like it buy it!

I'd casually ask what direction he is going in and why, sometimes you may find he knows more than he's letting on. A new belt and fuel pump isn't cheap to walk away from. Not at all saying don't go for it, looks really nice, but craigslist is amazing and awful sometimes lol. Good luck!

Looks really clean for 16yr old truck! I would take it to your mechanic for a quick once over though. Spend the ~$125 so you know what you might be in for on things you might not see.

I'm mainly wanting the 4wd for simple trail riding and the occasional off road trip. I'm not so concerned with rear lockers. Thanks for the suggestion, I ran across that one too. I'm much closer to Dallas than SM.

I asked, he's trying to get into a land cruiser. That was his only reasoning which sounds legit, totally different vehicles. I prefer the decent gas mileage over the size.

He said the trans was replaced in 2013 but i'm still waiting to hear about the radiator. He has some of the records from the previous owner that i'm going to take a look at. Would the "pink milkshake" still be a concern if the trans has been replaced?

More than likely, the pink milkshake is what caused the trans to be replaced. If the trans was replaced, I would also imagine the radiator was done at the same time (as this rusting out causes fluids to mix AKA pink milkshake). If he has all paperwork showing replacement and the radiator was replaced as well, I wouldn't call this a deal breaker, but I would make sure you familiarize yourself with any/all things to look for considering the pink milkshake. At the very least, I would work this knowledge of replaced trans into your negotiating.
