its a good looking truck but me personally....no I wouldn't buy one. like slaytera666 said, just buy a new one and fix it yourself.
 
I would never buy someone else's project unless I was planning on re - doing everything. Personally for that amount I would just buy new. Not only is it new but in most cases interest rate will be lower as well.

If it's exactly how I imagine it to be and its for the right price, sure.

I'm enjoying customizing it to my needs though.. and if your on this forum and you get bit by the mod bug, you might end up redoing some of the things you are paying a premium for... Such as the wheels, that would be my first switch.

Thanks guys. It looks like a clean piece. Carfax shows dealer service every 5k, but I'm thinking the same way, new is the best bet and make it my own project.
 
not for that price with that much mileage.

but - if i found one i liked, or even one that i mostly liked at a good price i would do so in a heartbeat. i get that the process of making it your own is fun and all, but sinking 10K into a truck is such a losing financial proposition that if i wanted a lifted/modded truck, i'd love to find somebody else willing to take that hit rather than take it myself.
 
You can always crawl underneath it , open the hood, ect. and have a look around. They try to cover up a dirty undercarriage with undercoat or paint, if hard to reach places are dirty or packed with mud, dents scratches on skids or difs, yeah the truck has probably been off road. Lots of people just build them up and just drive on pavement too.

It looks like it has at least $2400 in upgrades, wheels, tires, suspension. So is it that far off price wise?
 
I'm sure they took it in for a steal, hard to resale a modded vehicle especially one like that in the Bay Area. Original owner lived in Santa Cruz.

I'm very curious to drive it, may be worth a shot.
 
Normally I would not buy someone else's build, but I grew up in the old school days with people doing body lifts and el-cheapo suspension lifts to get the truck high for equally cheap tires. So it was always a game and to buy one, you really had to know about lifts and things. But I do not think a newer 4 runner would have this issue, I think newer cars in general make these issues more impossible to do, unlike a 1979 ford truck.

I also like modding my own stuff, it is fun and adventurous to do. The mods would have to be perfect, or the price would be the same without the mods, because I may not like the mods, so I do not want to pay for them.

Really though, someone else's mods are not for me, I would buy a clean slate. If it was just wheels or something, yea, but nothing else.
 
Judging by the pics(even though the dealer did a thorough cleaning) it may not have even been wheeled. I'd expect to see some more scratches and dings throughout. I'd get rid of those wheels too.
 
I didn't pay that much for mine brand new less than two weeks ago. I'd rather get a brand new truck and save up for the mods. By the time the 14 is as old as that, you will have your own lift and rims and tires on it and know everything about your truck and its history.
 
For that price...heck no!! Maybe for $28k would I be interested in taking it for a test drive. Then take the rig over to someone you trusted to do a once over on the suspension. 50k miles on the odo and this dealer is depreciating what...$3k from new? ridiculous.

It looks to have a decent toytec/eibach lift with newer meats/wheels. I wouldn't really call this someone's "project" rather a typical lifted 5th gen.

They are basically running a $900 suspension system from Toytec and bigger tires ~ $1,400.

I'd pass and find something cheaper.

Is it really someone's project though? Almost everything I've done (and most people on here have done) is bolt on and can just as easily be unbolted or unclipped (neoprene seat covers). What I wouldn't buy is anything with engine mods (not even CAI or that stuff because there's no telling if they've done other things to the engine) or an aftermarket full length roof rack like Baja or Gobi (because I don't know how well it's been sealed unless I did it myself), or shady maintenance records/accidents. I'd love to do my own maintenance but from a resale perspective I probably won't since I like to have solid documentation. I may sell mine if I get set of orders overseas because I won't drive it and I don't want to pay for something I don't drive. If that happens, you will see every mod I have come for sale because I'll return it completely to stock before I sell it because it gets better resale that way (especially to dealers if I'm in a pinch). Plus most people in WA that have these that I've seen are soccer moms.
