Ran across this and thought I'd share, I despise and "Charity" that pads it's pocket first and foremost.

"Wounded Warrior Project may have began as a worthy cause that helped a lot of people, but it has since become a questionable charity that is struggling to make the grade.

According to Non-Profit Quarterly, WWP received a “D” rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy, C+ by Charity Watch, and “three out of four stars” from Charity Navigator. In short, it’s a mixed score that doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

In addition, Wounded Warrior Project brought in $342 million in 2014, and only 55 percent of that goes to actually helping veterans in need while the other 45 percent is used for administrative expenses, $473,015 of which is the salary paid to CEO Steven Narduzzi."

I heard about this a year or so ago. Bullshit, but everything is a business.

We give to charities that we have personally been involved in/benefited from such as the USO. More importantly, we volunteer locally where we can see the results of our giving.
Our local VA hospital is a good one and encourages civilian volunteers to stick their nose in the tent and get involved.
The problem with giving money to charities is that they are a patchwork of hit and miss activities that are hard to track. The major, national way to help vets is by getting the Department of Veterans Affairs to do its job and be accountable. This must be done through your reps in Congress who control the funding. Ours are responsive, but they can’t do it alone.

Unfortunately so many charities are like this. No matter what the circumstances, ultimately greed gets the better of humans. In my opinion, our biggest fault.

As a veteran who was discharged under medical conditions I got some close hand experience with WWP, they really just seem like the masculine monster charity just like the breast cancer pink ribbon is the feminine monster. They take in huge profits and help out a bit.

Yeah I heard about this a while ago. I am still active duty and refuse to support this charity anymore. I still support the American Red Cross, the USO, AER, VFW. I used to also do a lot of volunteer trips and donations to veteran homes and Fisher House.

It always disgust me when I hear of a foundation that lines their own pockets first, then give what's left to those they are suppose to help.

What do we do? Well first off we hope to elect a President that honors our men and women that puts our country first, and fights to get them any help they need after and or during their service.

Something like 20 American Veterians commit suicide every day in America, 20 people!!

I've heard of this place, a place where our vets and their families can go and get help for this killer, this silent killer called PTSD, we've all heard of it and it's more deadly to our heroes then WAR itself.

Now there are many, many well deserving places that still do good by the people who donate and actually get the money where it belongs. But for me this place sound extraordinary and I HOPE you fellow T4R members do your research next time your looking to spread the love and maybe give this place a chance

And just to note, I do understand as your charity grows, so does your operational costs. As well as most likely the need to spend a bit more money for some higher-up positions. But many charities take this to the extreme.

This charity gives nearly nothing back. It has been talked about in veterans circles for years.

Don't wear their logo, don't support them and if you know a veteran who flashes their logo point out to them these guys run a terrible so called charity.

No your right they don't, the government has nothing to do with the type of foundations out there. My point being a little unclear is that we shouldn't need to rely on the charities to take care of the servicemen and women that need the help. It should be automatic and available (help) to them. But all to often those that need the help the most fail to get it. And yes, the President does have the ability to change the way we treat those that serve, it's just, he can't turn a blind eye like so many in the past have, this is how and why or VA hospitals are so corrupt.

Well the conservative part of me says we don't need larger government and more taxes to cover some of the work charities are ALREADY doing.

And the libertarian part of me says that if charities are such money scams anyways then the government should not be involved in this line of work.

Right? I'm surprised the government allows such unscrupulous organizations competing with their own collection of funds. But this isn't about what our government is, we all know they're corrupt. This is about sharing insight on organizations that provide the much needed help for the brave men and women that have served. I just truly wish we didn't need these places for our troops to go for help, that it would have already been taken cared of. In some ways the Vets of WWII had it better because they had the long boat ride home to decompress and a kinda group therapy before they got placed back into their daily lives back home, now days I don't think it's quite the same and so many of these people get lost and forgotten and end up choosing to end the pain the only way they know how
