Wow! Toyota water pumps are built to last.

I just pulled off the water pump and noticed the embossed code of a 9 over 96. If I'm correct that this is the date code then the original owner never changed the pump. Granted I only have 115K, but still, I don't think I've ever had one last this long. Makes me wonder about the belt and other things.

Good thing I'm sticking with an aisin water pump.

Mine was still going strong last month, almost definitely the original Aisin from 1997, replaced it with a brand new Aisin while I was there though.

My toyota car had 177K miles and was tight as a rock!

Mine was 200k when it was changed last year. One on my dodge was 250k. Dmax was 213k when we sold it. My 4Runner is the only one to have the coolant flushed. Water pumps are pretty hearty pieces of equipment.

OEM water pumps can go for a long time, usually undone by the gaskets or RTV that mates it to the block. 320k miles and 22 years is the longest I have ever heard of for longest OEM life.

The Chinese crap that is sold by the national auto parts chain stores today is a whole other story.

Mine made it to around 177,000 before it started leaking.
