Wrecked my Runner! (need advice)

Hey guys I'm new here and I'd like to thank anyone who helps out in advance.
I wrecked my 97 4Runner and it may be a total loss. It was about 2 in the afternoon and was snowing lightly with none sticking. I was merging onto a highway (I-95 S) and started to accelerate after the curve of the onramp and the moment I accelerated I started going over an overpass...the overpass was covered in black ice and my car spun out and slid right into the concrete guardrail with my front end at about 20-25 MPH. Fortunately nobody was hurt and no other cars were involved. I was so shaken up I didn't take pictures and haven't seen my car since it was towed. The damage was all on the front; the bumper was touching the ground, all front lights destroyed, grill destroyed, the engine was running fine and I had to drive off the highway and it drove.
The problem is that I didn't have collision insurance because the car was so old and I have no idea what to do with the car if it is totaled. The repair shop said if the frame is *not* bent then it is $6000 in repairs (2k in labor 4k in parts).

What do I do with my car if I don't want to pay *at least* 6k to
get it fixed?
Does 4k for the grill, lights, basically all parts in front of the engine seem really high to anyone else?

I'm moving to Hawaii in two and half weeks so my options are severely limited in terms of shopping around for a better quote. I had arranged for a company to ship my car but they won't ship a car that can't be driven legally, this really sucks because it's going to be so hard to just walk away from the car I've had for almost 10 years with only the front of it messed up and nothing mechanical!

Cherish your 4Runner!! I did mine, but you never know what could happen.

Depends. If all you did was damage things that can be unbolted and replaced then you might not be too bad> But odds are you messed up the core support.

i

sounds like you trashed the radiator support and probably the radiator/ ac condensor. Maybe the aprons too.

Always have collision coverage on a vehicle worth more than 5k

yeah im sure thats an accurate quote.

you could always tow it home and part it out, but that is a long slow process :(

If your moving soon you really only have 2 choices fix it or sell it as is..parting would take too long.

where you located?

Mike

Thanks to those who replied. It really looks like I'm going to have to sell it as is for whatever I can get for it. Like I said earlier I'm moving to hawaii in 2.5 weeks so I gotta get rid of it by then (I'm located in the DC metro area.
Does anyone here have any experience on selling a wrecked vehicle? It is a limited 4x4 with a locker so I think it should be worth maybe $2k to somebody??
Anyone have an idea on what it would be worth to someone so I know what to expect and don't get *completely* screwed on the transaction?

thanks,
Stinky

Hey guys I took some pics and it seems like I foolishly let my wife talk me into thinking it was in worse shape than it was. I think it may even be fixable..

Yup the way you described it made it sound worst. Doesn't look that bad. Looks like you need a new bumper, headlight, corner light, maybe grille (looks ok), and a fender. Hood looks alright. I'd take pics to a few shops and get some more quotes. That seems high to me.
