Wtf not a 4runner???!!

So I have my nephew who is buying his first rig. I have him lined out on a nice 3rd Gen limited, locker, just under 200k, good looking rig, send him and his dad over to do a preliminary drive, check, and photo shoot for me. I wasnt available to go when they could and would give it a serious once over if it was worth it.
The little F sends me this? WTF ROVER....you just bought a collector car....so now what are you actually going to drive every day?? I mean this thing looks awesome from the pics/description he gave me. I want to punch my brother in the nut sack for letting him buy this for a first rig.

You can daily drive whatever you want. Is that thing built up as a crawler only or is it not street worthy?

4Runner is great, but it isn't gold. But mine is... but that's because its actually gold.

I have 2 of them. Awesome vehicles, so cool. Your brother should totally be punched in the nuts, he's a freaking idiot.

Been there done that, not a cool first vehicle. If I had it to do over again, I'd have a hell of a lot more fun with this 4runner I have now. I must really dig 4x4s because working on those Broncos could have put me off of ever wanting to work on a vehicle ever again. I poured blood, sweat, and tears into them for years and never got to really enjoy them on or off road. Now they are reminders of a failure, not enough skill, money, or resources to finish. But I learned a lot even though I didn't get to ever enjoy driving them.

Neither of mine are roadworthy, yet I cling onto them like ailing family members. One day I think I'll make something out of them. Maybe I will who knows, but I know I need a hell of a shop first.

If you have a nice place to work, lots of tools, and people to help you with TONS of automotive experience in mechanical and body work, it's not so bad. If you want something you can enjoy in a time frame of weeks, not years, it's not cool.

I hope its in good shape, 95% of them are not. Which usually means major projects doing fun stuff like rebuilding the frame, body panels, swapping engines, transmissions, and axles.....

LOL....OH CRAP...already getting the I need help calls from my nephew. It wont idle...WTF?

First call was to tell me...and he says "I cant wait to take it in the hills, and it has a winch and everythign". He goes out in the hills a lot driving and being a kid. I tell him..."Do you have any clue what you just bought'? Yeah a 67 Bronco! Yeah I see that...but you can not take that out 4 Wheeling like you think you can. You bought a show car or just pissed away a shit ton of money and will destroy something that no one will ever be able to replace. He had no clue...just saw it on the side of the road...loved it (hell I love it)...and bought it pretty much immediately.

Fully 100% road worthy...my understanding and looking at the pics...its tight and clean. Now that may be different when I show up with the magnet. I think it's awesome and I hope he learns a ton working and messing with this rig...but it is not go hunting, don't care if its scratched, kid rig.


My brother I would die for in a second....mechanical skills....a big fat 0. He thinks an oil change is the only thing ever needs done to a vehicle. I just hope I can impart the importance of what he has...will have...could have....and dont get the call of it rolled down into a canyon....or smashed against a tree!

It's like a super hot chick who can suck a golf ball through the entire engine....but rumor is she passes on shit that stays for life. She just winked at you across the bar....NOW WTF DO I DO?? lol

Reminds me of a kid in my high school. Parents bought him a pretty much fully restored black 1970 Mach I. He was pissed because he wanted a Bronco. Nuked the engine within a couple of years because he never changed the oil and ended up running it dry.

Buy the kid a decent socket set and a shop manual. Help him out when he needs it (and he's going to need it), but make sure he does the bulk of the work.

Exactly! Great 4x4 to learn on and missing lots of the "features" that make things harder to fix. Let the kid be a kid and support him. Folks who think 4Runners are the only way to go have to open their minds. There are lots of good trucks around and limiting to a 4Runner is foolish especially for a young kid.

Have your nephew get on ClassicBroncos.com if he's into the forum thing. If it can be done to a Bronco those guys have done it.

I'm not on there much as I used to be but at the time it was a great bunch of guys and many of them helped me out greatly. They talked me through rebuilding the transfer case, and it turned out awesome. I tried stuff I never would have without that resource to go to. Also was a great community to trade and swap with for parts, got some good deals on things which helped out a lot.

No...I'm not hung up on any one kind of rig...he was wanting a go in hills, 4x4 it some, brush scrapes, reliable, decent fuel mileage, etc. We had some discussions, drove lots of different rigs, and he decided on a 4 Runner. For exact same reasons I have my current and previous 4 Runners. They are a great rig for his application.

BrianSD-42...I could not agree more. He has a loan for a lot of it is my understanding. He had enough of his own money to buy the runner with negotiation, and he works and earns his own money. I just found out....this one was a lot more than the 4 Runner but his dad fell in love with it. LOL....so it would appear...by brother is reliving his youth a little.

Hepar I totally agree it is the perfect easy to work on rig to learn some mechanic skills. I'm sure he will learn a lot. He already has a socket set, and some other tools. He keeps them locked up in his storage shed, so they don't disappear on the farm.

I have not seen it yet....but if it has F'N BILSTEIN SHOCKS ON IT....he will have to cut them off before I help one bit!! You only want to advertise you use quality products and companies who back their product! LOL

Bumpo I think it is awesome, excited, and worried all at once. LOL Just wondering who's rig he is going to want to borrow to go hunting and being stupid in the hills? Heck I want to borrow his and re-live my youth cruising it for chicks, so maybe he is smarter than I gave him credit for. LOL

AzHellfish ts a 67, 289 has headers, manifold, carb, from the pics, 3 spd moved from tree to floor,....have not seen it in person yet only pics.

Airmapper....I will....I was trying to help over the phone and cell pics last night. He lives a ways away and I can't just run down and help in a few minutes. I'm sure he will check it out. I sent him on You Tube to find out about his carb last night.
