WTH is going on with my 3rd Gen??

Not mine... I asked before... looking for a balljoint separator... they wouldn't lend it to me.

I know in most cities you can... I've borrowed tools from Canadian Tire and Part Source in the past... but here... they want your money. lol

you have no idea how crazy the blackflies get out here in the early summer... June is hell. lol!

I think you're about 2 weeks behind me and we're into the blackflies as of last week. Enjoy it while you can! I enjoyed the one day I had where it was warm enough to work with the garage door open, but the bugs hadn't started yet.

You know the blackflies are bad when you're looking forward to mosquito season!

I went to near Kenora last summer to work from July onwards I think and I was expecting the worst especially with all the swamps but there were hardly any bugs. Beautiful country up there. Wish I had my 4runner. Just used the rental Kia which was making funny noises on the gravel road.

So, I topped up the coolant several days ago, and it doesn't seem to be going down anymore?? I'm still guessing I have a slow leak somewhere... but not seeing it anywhere.

On a side note... the yard is nearly ready for summer... just waiting on a gravel delivery to finish my driveway, after removing the old garage floor. I ended up smashing it all with a sledge hammer, and re-used alot of the cement to build a patio and walkway to our fire pit.



Once the the patio and walkway was built... I broke up the rest, and loaded it all into my Tacoma, and with 3 very heavy loads... brought it to the municipal dump.



Now that most of the yard work is done... I can now focus more time on tinkering on my Toyotas.

You guys might have hit the nail on the head with the headgasket... because the exhaust does blow out white smoke on startup.... but I always assumed it was my refurbed injectors shooting more fuel in the cylinder than needed... as it always has a bit of a fuel smell when it's running.

Engines blow steam out the exhaust when cold. Otherwise you would think that everyone in town has a blown headgasket the moment the temps dip in the fall. Sounds like you have a leak. Check all hoses. Possibly a leaking water pump.

The yard looks excellent. So does the garage. I don’t see the Civic anywhere though.

How old is the radiator cap? As others have postulated I think you have a leaking hose. Grab some dye that is coolant safe and get some UV glass and flashlight.

If there's a next time, try renting a jackhammer. Not only is it less work but it's a whole lot more fun! I tried the sledgehammer route in my yard to remove some unnecessary concrete pads and it was slow going. Jackhammer with a spade bit made short work of it!

The Civic is still around... it was hiding in front of the garage. On a side note... I bought some new wheels for it with my tax returns this year.

Honestly, the cement was very easy to break up. No steel in it... and some sections were only a couple of inches thick. The worst of it, was about 4 inches thick... and as a former railroader... my sledgehammer skills are pretty decent. lol!
